Reintroducing Nina, from our bucket of chihuahuas! This sweet girl had some complicated medical issues we weren’t sure she was going to live through, but here she is, still alive and smiling 😊 She has a huge heart murmur you can feel when you hold her, and her echo revealed a surprise- she has a congenital heart condition that typically kills dogs at a young age unless they have surgery to repair it. But she’s at least 6-8 years old or older and still alive and stable, and not in heart failure. She has some heart disease that she’s on medication for but doing well. To make matters worse, she was never spayed (and bred likely passing heart issues to her offspring 🤦♀️), and had the beginning of a uterine infection so a spay at this point wasn’t optional despite higher risks with her compromised heart. But she came through with flying colors and is recovered and ready for a home. We are still looking into possible further options to help her heart in the long run and aren’t sure of her exact lifespan at this point, and shouldn’t be running any marathons, but right now is happy and having no breathing issues. She’s a cuddler who has to sleep completely under the covers next to you and does happy greeting dances with that adorable smile whenever you walk in the room. She’s ok with other little dogs although has her little snarky moments with them if they bother her when she doesn’t want to be but also will sleep cuddled with them. She’s under 10lbs and a really special little girl who deserves to be spoiled and loved for whatever time she has. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Nina in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Nina, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
