My story

Meet Papa Paradise — A Playful, Snack-Loving Gentleman! We’re already smitten with Papa Paradise and his sweet, silly spirit! This handsome 48-pound pup lights up with joy during yard time, bounding after toys with the happiest energy. He may not bring them back just yet, but he’ll proudly carry his prize to a cozy spot to gently chew and savor it all on his own. He lets you pet all over him while he chews on his toy.Volunteers have described Papa Paradise as playful, smart, and sweet—and we couldn’t agree more. He has a solid “sit” that he’ll patiently hold, especially when treats are involved. He also comes when called, making it easy to engage and build a connection. Papa is working on his leash skills, and doing a great job. He may pull here and there out of enthusiasm, but he is easy to engage and never pulls too hard. While he enjoys gentle pets, his real love language just might be snacks! This polite and independent guy has the perfect mix of playful energy and calm vibes. He appears to be housebroken and has already gone on several Dog’s Day Out adventures to Patapsco State Park, Dunkin’, and Petco. Papa loved hiking and swimming, and would make an enthusiastic adventure buddy. At the end of the day he is a big time cuddler, and will happily nap by your side for some TV time. He rides well in the car and even did great for a bath. He is such a good boy that he was invited back to one volunteer’s home to relax in the AC! He enjoyed playing with toys and calmly explored the new house like a gentleman.Papa Paradise can be uncomfortable with other dogs, and would prefer to be the only dog in his future home. He can return to BARCS for socials after adoption to work on feeling more comfortable with dog pals.I`m a VIP because I`m still learning, and the shelter can be a tough place for dogs like me to shine. But I’ve got a whole team cheering me on!Here are a few things the staff and volunteers are helping me with:• Learning to channel my extra energy in fun, healthy ways• Practicing calm behavior when seeing things on walks that excite or scare me• Picking up manners and basic cues• Practicing calm behavior behind fences and gates• Working with my handlers to manage my reaction to squirrels or other small animals• *I should be the only dog in the home, unless you’re working with a behavior professional to help me build my social skills. If you`re patient and open-hearted,

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Papa Paradise, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
