My story

Travieso is a tender-hearted boy who's still figuring out the world around him. Quiet and cautious, he often watches from the sidelines with soft, searching eyes, hoping for someone patient enough to meet him where he is. In his kennel, Travieso presses his head gently against the bars, calmly watching those who pass by. Once out, he walks closely at your side, hesitant at first but willing to follow with encouragement and gentle words. New people and places can be scary, and he may freeze or flinch, but he's incredibly resilient, staying near, accepting treats softly, and even sniffing hands and arms as he slowly learns to trust. Travieso perks up around other dogs, showing curiosity and confidence from a distance, and might benefit from a calm canine companion to help guide him. While he's still learning how to navigate new environments, he responds well to consistency, soft voices, and tasty rewards like hot dogs or pupperoni. Travieso is looking for a quiet, loving home with someone who sees the beauty in small steps and is ready to help him build confidence at his own pace. If you have a gentle heart and a little extra patience, Travieso is ready to meet you at ACCT Philly, open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. BEHAVIOR: 07/14/2025 volunteer notes: Kennel Presence: I passed by Travieso while I was walking through the kennels and when I circled back he was in the same position- his head pressed up against the kennel bars, soft eyes and looking up at me. When I opened the door he stayed still for leashing but when I opened it further to get out, he froze. With verbal encouragement and light leash pressure, he hopped down. Walking through the kennels, he started off walking along side me but when we turned a corner and saw a new person, Travieso froze. With leash pressure and a jogging pace, Travieso moved on. This happened with another employee who offered Traveiso treats, which he did not take but he got very close to the person and sniffed their whole arm. He then moved on with me. Leash: Travieso walked outside low to the ground with a low, still tail. He would stop and go as we approached new things but generally stayed close to my side. In the dog run, we saw another dog through the fence and Travieso perked up- his chest held high, eye contact with the dog, ears at attention. When new people would walk by, Travieso would follow them along the fence He did seek treats out of my pouch but waited while I got them out and took them gently from my hand. There was some treats in the dog run in a container and he sniffed them out, when I leaned over to open it to get some, Travieso flinched. He did not move away and still took treats from me. Walking inside, he came along with me until the door to the building. He froze and began to back track. I kept leash pressure and the leash crossed his mouth and he lightly mouthed it but dropped it within 10 seconds. I was able to open the door and inch him into the building- he did fine walking to kennels once we were inside building. I would recommend keeping momentum and high value treats to return him- specifically hotdogs, pupperoni. Evaluated- Blue. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.
