My story

Looking for a foster to adopt situation! Doug is estimated to be 8-10 month old and older puppy and should be under 20 lbs full grown. He is one of 7 dogs that came to rescue from a much larger hoarding case.  Unaltered dogs allowed to have litter after litter until there were too many to take care of and not enough people to give the time and attention to properly socialize. Doug is building confidence with each day as he experiences many common experiences for possibly the first time.  A life outside with no prevention against parasites. He  was neutered and caught up on vaccinations, but sadly tested positive for heartworms. He  is young and we caught it early, but he  will need to undergo treatment before he should be adopted.  The first 60 days of heartworm treatment is easy. One pill twice a day for 30 days. And no strenuous activity (long walks, hiking, etc) followed by 30 days of letting the meds do thier job... The first 60 days is a great time to get to know Doug , spend some time getting to know his amazing personality and just enjoying his company. Day 60 is his first injection. He  will feel gross, might have some discomfort. He will need crate rest and leash walking. No jumping, running or anything that might elevate his heart rate. This will continue for about 3-4 weeks and then on day 90 &91 he  will get his  next rounds of injections and start again with more crate rest and leash walking.  It is important that his person/family spend some time with him during those first 60 days, to see what his normal is, so if during treatment something abnormal happens, they can recognize. He could start coughing, become lethargic, swelling, soreness,  labored or rapid breathing, lack of appetite, and/or fever.  He  is crate trained, almost house trained but could use some work walking on leash.  He is neutered , up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.  when finished with treatment, his adoption fee will be $300, we have collected donations to cover his heartworm treatment. He will stay an Amazing Mutt foster dog until treatment has been completed incase there are any complications.  He will need to placed on heartworm prevention (and continue for life).  TO FILL OUT an application to foster visit  https://petstablished.com/foster_form/33867/generic if you have any questions feel free to email us at AmazingMuttsAndWiggleButts@gmail.com ##2457590##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Doug, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
