My story

If you’re looking for the sweetest dog this side of the Rockies (or the other side, really), meet 5-year-old American Pit Bull mix Gertrude. She’s a petite 30-pound lovebug who wants nothing more than to be your loyal sidekick, snoozing next to you and soaking up all the scritches and snacks she can get. Gertrude is a gentle, low-key girl who enjoys short games of fetch, tasty treats, and relaxing strolls. She’s a bit shy with new people at first, but once she warms up, she’ll stick by your side through thick and thin. She doesn’t pay much attention to other dogs or wildlife, so she makes a peaceful walking companion. Her dislikes? Loud unexpected noises, when mealtime ends too soon, and spending too much time outside or alone. Gertrude does have a heart condition that means she can’t handle too much excitement or heavy exercise, especially in the heat. She takes a daily medication to help with this and will need a check-up with a heart specialist about once a year. While there is a small risk of sudden heart problems, Gertrude is happy living life at a slower, more relaxed pace—and she’s pretty great at it. If you’ve got a cozy spot on the couch and a heart ready to love a special dog, Gertrude just might be your perfect match.
