Socialization/training: Moka is experiencing a lot of new things in her young life so she is a bit timid with situations new to her. Moka is a velcro dog for sure and loves to be with her people, she will literally sit on your lap while watching tv. Moka loves being around other dogs and loves my 8-year-old son. Moka has a habit of jumping up on people, thank fully she is gentle about it and we are working on the “Off” command when she does it. This may be too much for younger children. Moka responds well to a noise command vs a word command we have noticed. Noise command used is like a “sh/ch” sound. When meeting new people Moka can be a bit timid at first but once she gets a sniff in she will gladly come over for kisses and rubs. Moka enjoys going to doggy daycare during the week and is friendly with both big and small dogs. Moka respects older dogs who want to be left alone. Moka is also housebroken and will let you know she has to go out. Crate trained: Moka is very comfortable being in her crate and doesn’t make a sound. Moka sleeps and eats in her crate with no issues. When Moka first came to me she was a bit protective of her crate with the other dogs around because it was her safe space but since being with me she has done so much better and is not protective at all. Leash trained: Moka gets frequent leashed walks and does well. Moka likes to bird watch while on walks. Moka does get a bit spooked with loud noises and will stand behind you until she knows everything is ok. Moka does great walking with the other household dogs. Activity Level: Moka is pretty laid back, she isn’t overly energetic. Moka will entertain herself with dog toys and will play with the other dogs when she wants to. Ultimately she just wants to soak up all the human love and attention. Fence: Leash walking has worked out for Moka, along with a solid exercise plan like doggy daycare. Moka would be fine in a home without a fence. I do have baby gates around the house and Moka has not attempted to jump over them at all. Behavior: Moka can be timid and shy in new situations but after a few minutes will light up and want to be with her humans for pets and love. Moka is a big cuddle bug and will lay in your lap on the couch, in bed, on the floor, really anywhere you sit. Moka really wants to be with you at most times but she does well with being alone. I have not seen any type of separation anxiety when I do leave the room or house. Only time I have ever heard Moka bark is when she is trying to initiate play with one of the other dogs in the house, other than that she is a very quiet girl. Moka does get a little shy when meeting new people but it only will last a couple of minutes before she is your best friend. I have noticed with her meeting men, it does take a little time before she comes over to say “hi”. Moka does great with kids but because of her happy jumping she might knock down younger children unintentionally. Moka would gain lots of confidence and comfort with another dog in the household or a doggy socializing option during the week. Medical History: Moka is up to date with all vaccines, flea/ tick, and heartworm preventatives. Moka is microchipped and spayed. Moka is due for her next Leishmaniasis test on 8/30/2025. Moka will need updated vaccines in August 2025. This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80. Foster Comments: Moka's mom was a pure English Setter, & while she didn't inherit those features, she is an adoable sweet mix. Moka has come along way since day one with me, she is learning how to live in a home with all the smells and activity in it. Moka ultimately wants a family to love on her and her love on them, she craves human love and attention. Moka is such a sweet dog and wants to please everyone she meets. If I didn’t already have three dogs of my own, she would definitely be a foster fail for me. Moka will truly be someone’s best friend and a great dog. Moka is a quick learner and does great with routine. Also Moka gives the best hugs! Foster Location: Ashburn, VA Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $75.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI). Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions. ##2433838##
