My story

A volunteer writes:Imagine being a pet for a number of  years and suddenly find yourself, all alone in an apartment for one week after your owner left and then be confined to a kennel for an unknown length of time...Some cats are quite resilient, others have a very hard time to deal with their ordeal. This is the case of Appa, a four year old Tortie. Appa stays in her den 24/7, just coming out to eat and do her business and then back in hiding. She does not want to deal with her new reality, her caretakers or any visitors. As I open her "lair", my first glimpse of her is a peacefully resting cat. She withdraws and freezes quickly as I try very slowly and smoothly to interact with her. She does not want my treats. She is now plastered at the back of her hiding spot looking at me and surprisingly, reciprocates my slow blinks. She tried to escape a number of times but not this time. I am hoping for a breakthrough in our next encounter.. I think she can do it! Of course, a home sweet home would be so much better than my still failed attempts to make friends. Would you be Appa's champion? If so, come and meet our gal at the Manhattan Care Center. What my friends at ACC say about me:I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. Primary Color: Tri Color Weight: 9.5 Age: 4yrs 1mths 0wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Appa, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
