Charles was a surrender to our rescue. He came with medical records which detailed a chronic urinary tract infection over the past year. He came to us with a severe infection of his little boy parts. Charles was taken immediately to my vet, examined and treated. Later on, I would find out he had urinary incontinence. A second appointment for Charles was arranged with a veterinarian in San Antonio that is very rescue friendly with cost. Charles was examined in greater detail there. But as he had healed following his visit with Branch vet. The veterinarian recommended to do observation for the time being. X-rays of the bladder and urine samples were been taken and no problems were noted. Recently, things had been well with Charles until I heard him cry out in discomfort one evening. He likes to sleep in the cattery laundry room. I am assisted by my dog, Donnie, who considers himself a K9 Cat Scanner. He alerts me to anything wrong with the cats. (He's really good at breaking up cat fights too). Over the next couple days we observed that, Charles starts feeling pain and discomfort when he's resting. He starts slapping his tail. Which probably makes his discomfort worse, so he grabs at his tail and growls. I always try to break the cycle of tail grabbing. So now, as soon as I walk in to video him, Charles, jumps down for pets and attention. His pain was obvious, So off to the vet again. None of us believed his tail was actually the problem, but we had to eliminate that chance. X-rays did reveal an enlarged left kidney. Tests revealed there was infection in the bladder this time and an ultrasound revealed a cyst on Charles' kidney. The bladder infection has responded well to antibiotics He only has mild bouts of discomfort. But unfortunately the enlarged kidney and cyst are very bad news for Charles. He may be facing a short remaining life. Charles is a super cool boy, fits in fast, friendly, easy going, likes everybody. There's no knowing how much good quality time Charles has left. He's actually quite young. He certainly would love to spend it with people just as special as he is. I would love to hear from an interested family that has room for this sweet soul.
