My story

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $700 Meet Huckleberry! The once-timid shelter pup who’s blossomed into a sweet, playful, and loyal companion!   Huckleberry is a 2 year old, 16 lb Schnauzer-Terrier type mix who came to us as an urgent “rescue needed” case after arriving at the shelter completely shut down, hiding in his crate, too scared to move. But with a little patience and a lot of love, this gentle boy began to shine— and today he’s proof that sometimes all a dog needs is a chance.   From the moment he landed in his foster home, Huckleberry showed his sweet nature. He was shy at first, but within 24 hours, he was trotting along on leash walks, curling up on the bed, and greeting his foster sibling (a seven pound pup) with wagging tails and polite sniffs. Now, he follows his foster mom from room to room and is happiest when he’s close by or cuddled up next to you.   Huckleberry’s Daily Vibes:   Morning walks (he’s a great leash walker and loves to sniff the flowers)   Playtime with his doggy friend (he’s gentle but loves to roughhouse!)   Naps and cuddles   More walks, fetch sessions, and people-watching at the park or coffee shop   Evening snuggles and sleeping right at the edge of the bed   This boy is the perfect blend of playful and laid-back. He’s young and energetic enough for long walks and hikes (he’s already conquered a few 5+ mile adventures!), but also knows how to settle and relax. He’s polite with other dogs, loves to fetch, and has the softest, most soulful eyes that will melt your heart.   A Few Huck Highlights:   Housetrained   Loves other dogs   Great on leash   Not a big barker   Sweet, cuddly, and ridiculously adorable   Sensitive and responsive to gentle guidance Low shedding, low maintenance coat   Huckleberry’s ideal home is one where he’s part of the family— whether that’s with respectful older kids, a playful dog buddy, or active humans who want a loyal sidekick for walks, hikes, and coffee shop hangs. He can be a little nervous in the car and needs to transition to new foods slowly, but he takes everything in stride with his gentle, loving spirit.   His foster says it best: “I love everything about him— he’s sweet, kind, and loyal. You just can’t beat that.”   Apply to adopt Huckleberry and let this gentle soul fill your life with love!July 6, 2025, 12:18 pm
