My story

Cinnamon was found on Front Street and brought to ACCT Philly on July 3rd, 2025. The finder didn’t have any information about her background and wasn’t able to keep her, so Cinnamon is now hoping for a fresh start with a loving family. She’s approximately one year old and weighs 43 pounds. Since arriving, Cinnamon has shown us glimpses of a sweet and social nature, though she’s also still decompressing from her recent experiences. Her kennel presence can be tense—she sometimes grumbles or flattens herself when approached—but staff and volunteers have been able to leash her with slow, respectful handling. Out in the yard, Cinnamon warms up quickly, sitting for treats (though she can be snatchy!), exploring curiously, and allowing full handling. She has shown social interest in people and is very food-motivated, which will be helpful for building trust and continuing her training. With consistency, patience, and a calm environment, Cinnamon has the potential to become a loyal and loving companion. Behavioral Notes Per volunteer 7/6: met Jeffina through the fence, then walked with her. They were avoidant of each other - neither was interested in approaching the other, but they were not upset by the other's presence either. 07/06/2025 Today, volunteer training and used cinnamon! She was standing at the front of the kennel, tail low, head, low, tension in her body. Taking treats readily with some intensity. Easy to leash, tail would move from down to tucked as we walked outside and remain so while we walked. She’s very food motivated and will grab the treats from your fingers with a hard mouth. She is great at catching them, so I recommend that instead, and she is also able to find them if you toss them on the ground or in the grass. Because she was tense, we did very limited, heading and touching, we use the leash to pet her first and she was unfazed, and then put her on the back with our hands, and she remain unfazed and did not solicit any further attention from the handler. She did however, look for more treats and we of course gave her some! She went into the splash pad, the water was not sprinkling, but there was a puddle of water, and she readily walked through that. When walking back to the kennel, she would stop and look around a few times with tail down or tucked, and once we got to her kennel, she hopped right in and was easy to remove the leash. 07/05/2025 Per staff behavioral eval: Cinnamon was lunging at adopters in the eval room when i was grabbing another dog. i came back to her after i was done to assess her as she was lying down. she was laying flat with wide eyes and was grumbling. i opened the crate door and reached in with my leash to which she remained very still. i easily secured her and she came right out. she pulled moderately and walked past by the dogs in the crates without a reaction. in the yard cinnamon sat patiently for a treat but was extremely snatchy so i tossed it. she had neutral soft eyes and kept herself sniffing around. she is super social and sweet, allowing all handling, and showing minimal interest in toys. a dog passed by on the other side of the yard and she pulled towards him but i redirected her attention back to me. blue 7/4: Attempted to get out to playgroup. Found her curled up, hunched, ears back, gaze averted, low growling in her crate. With a slow approach, was able to loop her without any further reactivity. But she resisted coming out of the crate and so I allowed the lead to slip off and decided to give her a pass. Saw her in her crate later that day sitting toward the front after having worked on a frozen nylabone. She allowed me to open the crate and place a new frozen nylabone in. She gave me a grumble when I reached toward the other nylabone to remove it, so I let her keep it. 07/03/2025 Appears reactive to other animals. Was very curious about other animals in the lobby. lunging towards cats in the carriers. Medical Notes 07/03/2025 | 2:20 pm – Completed Body Condition Score: 3 - Thin Assessment: Microchip Found? Y/N: Eyes - pink, clear Ears - slightly dirty Nose - clear Mouth/Teeth/Gums - yellow staining, pink moist gums Coat & Skin - scar on face and side of mouth and back, a Heald bite wound on right paw. Urogenital - in tacked female Gait/Mobility - no limpness Attitude: friendly Overall Assessment: she looks healthy Behavior (Green, Gold, Blue, Red): Behavior notes: a very sweet girl, knows sit and is extremely treat motivated.
