My story

Mason Paddington ACCT-A-223819 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Mason Paddington must have confirmed placement with an RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Tuesday, July 8th at 10 A.M. Should Mason Paddington's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Mason Paddington is a 2-year-old male cat who was surrendered to ACCT on 7/2 due to ongoing medical concerns and the owner's inability to afford further treatment. The owner reported having Mason for about two years after finding him abandoned on the street. Mason is described as a loving but very shy cat who is nervous around strangers and children. While he reportedly gets along with dogs and cats in general, the owner noted that Mason has bitten and chased the other resident cat in the home. He has a history of urinary issues, including frequent licking of his genitals and urinating outside the litter box. Mason was previously seen by a veterinarian and prescribed medication, which helped temporarily. He requires a special urinary diet (Purina Pro Plan UR) due to a history of urinary crystals. The owner could no longer afford his care and hoped he could be placed in a home better equipped to meet his medical needs. Since arriving at ACCT, Mason has not been eating and is now at high risk for hepatic lipidosis due to his obesity and inappetence. Additionally, without access to proper prescription food and in the stressful shelter environment, he is at high risk of developing a life-threatening urinary blockage. Mason urgently needs rescue or adoption placement where he can be monitored and encouraged to eat consistently in a calm environment. VIDEO: Mason Paddington getting pets https://youtube.com/shorts/uEBZ695pVls 7/5 Staff Note: Mason was sitting in the cat tower relaxing. When I stepped in, he didn’t seem very interested in me but did allow me to reach in and pet him. I stood there for a bit, talking to him and petting him—he allowed the interaction but didn’t actively seek it out. I came back with different types of treats to see if he’d be interested. He would sniff them, then go back to doing his own thing. I decided to leave him be and see if he might take interest in the treats while I was away. Overall sweet cat. On 7/5 Per staff: Discontinue medical feedings, as we do not have C/D and cat is not eating K/D. Although owner reported inappropriate elimination and a history of FLUTD, it is more important that Mason continues to eat in shelter or he will be at high risk for hepatic lipidosis. Mason is also at a high risk of developing a urethral obstruction in the stressful shelter environment, especially without prescription food. Vet Exam Summary (7/2/25): Mason was seen for an initial triage exam at ACCT Philly on 7/2 due to reported urinary issues, including a history of crystals and urinating outside the litter box. He was noted to be quiet, alert, and responsive (QAR), with a body condition score of 8/9 (obese), mild dehydration, and some respiratory effort. His gums appeared pale but moist, and he had clear eyes and no external parasites. He was started on Gabapentin, provided with a urinary-supportive diet (temporarily substituted with k/d food), and placed on a monitoring plan for appetite and urination, with a recheck scheduled. Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat. Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details. All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly’s Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Mason Paddington, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
