My story

Meet Ruby! This tiny gal transferred to us from the San Diego Humane Society. Upon arrival, Ruby was skittish, hiding under her sling bed, not interested in food, and was in pure flight mode. She learned the routine fairly quickly! While she was going in and out of her kennel, eating, playing with her friends, and cautiously sniffing the staff here and there, she has not solicited attention from the staff. When all her friends are clamoring around us for attention, Ruby will excitedly approach us and then return to going about her business. Ruby is a sweet, shy little girl, so we are taking baby steps to ensure she feels as safe as can be for that eventual time we can reach out a hand to give her some tender loving care. Behavioral considerations: As mentioned above, staff have not been able to conduct solicited physical attention. For vet visits, one staff member is able to corner Ruby, gently scoop her up with a towel, and then easily remove the towel for smooth transport. With this pathway to success, we are taking things day-by-day to show Ruby that we are safe and she is loved. A home experienced with fearful/shy behavioral cases, and with at least one other dog, is where she will flourish. Regarding COVID-19 and other contagious illnesses: Please reschedule any visits if you are sick.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ruby, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
