My story

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $800 Meet Thistle — the 14 lb bundle of love, loyalty, and surprise hops you never knew you needed.   Thistle is a 1–2 year old petite Schnoodle-type mix who was rescued from a shelter and has since blossomed into the most affectionate, people-loving pup her foster family has ever met. Her journey began a bit cautiously — she was hesitant and unsure her first day, sniffing out her surroundings and gently taking treats by hand. But by day three? Thistle had found her groove.   Now, she’s the ultimate lap companion and a total snuggle pro. She's happy to curl up with you, follow you around, or greet your houseguests like long-lost friends — unless it's hot out, in which case she’ll sprawl out nearby in her own personal chill zone. She’s not clingy, just deeply affectionate and happy to be part of the pack.   Thistle has quickly adapted to her foster home’s rhythm. She’s housetrained, uses a doggy door like a pro (learned in just two days!), and has had zero accidents. At night, she tried the crate life, but once she realized her foster siblings got to sleep in the bed, she politely let everyone know she wanted in too. Since joining the bedtime cuddle crew, she’s been sleeping like a dream.   While she’s still working on her leash confidence, she loves backyard time and has started to play with her foster brother TJ, though she prefers short bursts of fun followed by serious lounging. She’s even found a love for toys, especially ropes, and enjoys chewing on tasty treats like bully sticks and pig ears.   Thistle gets along beautifully with other dogs (even cranky seniors!), is polite with guests, and has shown nothing but curiosity and gentleness. No digging, barking, or destruction here — just a sweet soul with the occasional surprise bounce (she once leapt onto the counter to look out the window for her foster mom!).   Her ideal home? A family or adopter who wants a loving, lap-ready sidekick. Thistle would thrive in a home with doggy friends or humans who adore cuddles. She’s smart, quick to adapt, and incredibly affectionate — the kind of dog who will make you feel lucky every single day.   If you're looking for a snuggly, sweet, counter-surfing (only out of love!) little best friend — Thistle’s your girl.  July 1, 2025, 2:01 pm
