Ripple is a 5–6 month old Australian Cattle Dog mix who weighs about 25 pounds and is already well on his way to becoming someone’s lifelong best friend. He came to us from a shelter where he’d been overlooked for a month and was listed for euthanasia simply because no one had given him a chance. But the moment he arrived at DPS, it was like a light switched on — he knew he was safe, and he let his sweet, goofy, gentle self shine through. Ripple is affectionate, curious, and loyal to his core. He loves to nuzzle in for snuggles, but he’s never pushy. He’s the kind of dog who follows you from room to room just to be near you, quietly laying down by your feet with a toy or bully stick in tow. He has a great “work hard, relax hard” rhythm — eager to play and explore when it’s time, but perfectly content to chill once the fun’s done. His day starts around 7am with a potty break, followed by breakfast and some morning movement — a walk or backyard romp. During the day, he alternates between naps, supervising you like a little home assistant, and charming everyone with his calm, watchful energy. He’s respectful, polite, and gives space when asked — truly a well-mannered pup beyond his months. Ripple gets along beautifully with other dogs. He reads cues well and plays confidently without being overwhelming. He’s met visiting dogs and done great, and with the right intro, he might even coexist peacefully with a dog-savvy cat. He’s also been gentle and appropriate around children ages 8 and up. He’s still learning the ropes of potty training but is making good progress. He’s not destructive — just a happy chewer of appropriate things. He may do a little digging and will bark politely when someone’s at the door but quickly settles. His ideal home? Ripple would thrive in an environment where he gets daily exercise as well as enrichment to stimulate his mind - he is one smart cookie! He’d enjoy a dog friend but would be equally happy as your one-and-only. Ripple is all about connection — he wants to be by your side, not in your way. He's a fast learner and would be a dream training buddy! He would also be a perfect playmate for another young pup. Why Ripple? Because he’s special. He’s calm yet playful, intuitive, expressive, and impossibly sweet. His eyes tell you everything you need to know — this is a dog who will bond deeply and give his whole heart. He may have started life in a shelter, but he’s ready to live the rest of it as someone’s beloved best friend. Adopt Ripple, and you won’t just be rescuing a dog — you’ll be gaining a loyal shadow, a gentle soul, and maybe even a sock-gifting assistant.July 1, 2025, 1:38 pm
