My story

Meet Zippo !! This guy has made so much progress we wanted to make him a solo post. He’s super sweet and playful. Great little guy! Zippo or zip zip, zipper, zippy, and zipiddy do dah, as we call him LOL. He came to us very shy and fearful. He has really come out of his shell and has become so much fun. He loves to watch TV and seems to think zombie movies are the best. He will intently watch while laying on your lap. He is always happy to see you with a smile and a wagging tail. He is an approx 3 month old male puppy. He weighs 8 pounds currently. His mom is only 20 pounds full grown but dad is unknown. He will likely be a smaller, but maybe medium size dog. We don’t know his exact breed. His mom looks a bit like a cattle dog and rat terrier mix. He definitely has some cattle dog characteristics but likely has a few breeds mixed in. (Mom and siblings have separate posts) Zippo will be vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and neutered as part of his adoption. He loves to play with other dogs, he’s really fun! He loves to chase and be chased. He also loves toys and bones. Zippo loves people but is still shy about being reached for. That’s about all he’s shy about. He loves to wrestle, follow you around, chase you and have you chase him. He’s getting better about being reached for but will still run back a few feet if he’s scared. Despite that he’s been easy to manage. He is NOT shy about loud noises or storms etc. He hung out right by us while we used saws and drills in the yard etc. his only shyness is the reaching out for him. We’ve been working on training him to “come” toward an outreached arm. He’s doing exceptional with it and now will boop the hand each time we ask him to come. Very smart boy that’s eager to learn. He is fostered with other dogs and loves them. He has been with all sizes and ages of dogs and does great. He has never met any cats so we are not sure how he would do. He’s still young enough to learn proper cat manners with your guidance. He’s done great with kids so far. Very loving and once picked up will play or cuddle with anyone. He does like to play chew on hands and hair and enjoys some ankle nipping as playful herding behavior but has never been aggressive. Even when scared he doesn’t try to bite at all. Zippo is good on car rides. A bit nervous at first but doesn’t get sick. He’s is very good about crate training. He’s not been vocal at all and does fine with being crated a full work day. He is not leash trained. He’s still a bit afraid of that. He will need a fenced yard due to that. He loves toys and bones. He loves running around the yard. Tag and chase are his absolute favorite thing. Despite being shy when reached for that disappears during a game of catch me if you can. He also loves a good wrestle with your hands and he will bounce up and down smacking you with his cute little paws. He also has a sweet relaxed side. Sleeping on the couch with you or watching TV. Well balanced little guy. Zippo tries his best with potty training. He sleeps through the night in his crate and only sometimes has potty accidents in there. He has been really good about using puppy pads both in the crate or out of it. He also has almost no accidents when let out frequently. He will use the puppy pads if you’re gone a long work day or overnight but many times he waits and has no accidents. For his age he’s doing really well. We have been feeding him at times where he can potty well before a long stay kenneled and that helps a lot. He tries to be very clean and when he uses the pads in the crate he doesn’t step in it etc like many pups will do. Overall he’s been an easy pup. So far he has a medium energy level. He plays and runs but also relaxes. He has not had any trouble sharing, food, treats, or toys with other dogs or people. We have really fallen in love with this pup. He tries so hard to overcome his shyness because he absolutely loves to play and be with you. If you’re looking for a sweet, happy and spunky guy then he’s your boy!! Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com or for faster response and to see more pics message our Facebook Page directly with questions or to get an application.‼️
