My story

Age: Estimated DOB 4/1/2020 Dog friendly: Yes but no large dogs Cat friendly: Unknown Kid friendly: Older/considerate kids only Potty trained: No, still working on it Crate trained: Yes I am Merlot, and I am excited to meet you! For me, "excited" just means that I will be carefully observing you from whatever I deem as the safest corner of the space I'm in. It might not look like your typical "excited," but I'm still kind of new to this whole "good life" thing, so I like to quietly and carefully observe my surroundings. There are a few important things to know about me. Even though I am sometimes afraid of new things, I learn to trust my safe person and follow their lead (I am very good at being a still statue and letting my humans pick me up and snuggle me and tell me I am the goodest girl!). Every so often, I might even surprise you and voluntarily come within a few feet of you--that's my way of telling you that I love you. Pretty brave, huh? Also--surprise! I don't have any teeth! But don't worry, I'm not even a picky eater. I like wet food, I like kibble with some bone broth, I even like to stealthily steal my sister's food from her bowl when she's not looking. I also like to carry very small toys and keep them in my dog bed. I'm not exactly sure what it means to "play" with them, but I do like to keep them all safe and together. I really, really love belly rubs. It is when I feel most happy and comfortable. You can give me belly rubs in my dog bed or you can pick me up and put me on the couch next to you. Bonus if you talk to me, too! I like when the humans talk to me. I don't really talk back, though--I'm a pretty quiet lady. In the last few months, I can only remember barking maybe once! To be honest, I haven't quite figured out this thing called "always going outside to pee and poop." It just seems a lot easier to go when you gotta go! When I am outside, I often do go potty, but to be honest, I'm a little picky. If the grass is too long and touches my belly...no thanks. Or if there are scary noises like a neighbor mowing their lawn...I'll pass. I'd prefer a potty pad in my X-Pen inside. For me, my X-Pen is actually my favorite place! I feel pretty safe in there. I get overwhelmed with TOO much space (or I might be sneaky and poop under the dining room table). My humans keep telling me that I deserve good things. That I am learning! That learning to trust is KINDA a big deal. And that I grow more every day! And that my forever family is going to believe all those things about me, too.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Merlot, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
