Imagine this for a minute. You are a 9 year old, amazing dog who's been nothing but sweet and loving your whole life. You've lived with the same owner since you were born, a nice woman who loved you. Over the years, your dog family grew and grew, finally topping out at a whopping 41 dogs living on the same property together. Unbeknownst to you (because you are a dog), the nice woman's circumstances changed. Next thing you know, a different lady has rescued you, put you into a crate in her car, and transported you to a waiting foster family. They brought you inside, where these strangers started talking to you, where you met two other dogs you'd never seen before, and where you started looking around this new, strange place that looked completely different than where you had been your whole life. How would you feel? For Amelie, the answer was "terrified". Let's flash forward just one week. What began as a really scary change of life has already started to shift into this sweet girl starting to get comfortable, slowly start settling into her new situation, and slowly starting to come out of her shell and showing what a good, good girl she is. But from the very first moment, even scared with all of the changes, she was immediately showing us how loving, sweet and gentle she is. Amelie is a HUGE hugger and face licker. She draws comfort from being with her people, even new ones, and pays that back 10 fold with the love and affection she shows. Her wonderful personality is starting to emerge. Her tucked tail is wagging a whole lot more. She wouldn't eat the first day or so; now, she's bouncing around whoever is preparing her bowl, then devouring it as soon as it hits the floor. She is curious and has started to explore the house and yard. After initially being timid and keeping to herself, she now seeks us out, looking first for a hug or a kiss or belly rubs, and then for a spot nearby to settle in and be together. The only peep we've heard out of her so far is this sweet, faint whimper she does as she's being hugged, as if she's saying "I love you so much". This amazing dog is the real deal. Fully housebroken and crate trained (she wanders in and out of it as she chooses), Amelie is a kind soul looking for the same in her forever family. She is a chilled out girl, and loves lying around as long as she can be near her people. She does a really good job on her leash, considering she's rarely if ever been on one before. She's sweet with everyone and every dog, ignores both cats and goats (so far), and have I mentioned, she loves, loves, LOVES people! She is adaptable and would be a great fit for many different family situations. The ideal situation would be a human mom and/or dad (with or without kids), who fell in love with her and wanted to be the one to continue to bring her out of her shell, and be who Amelie could direct her love and affection toward forever - soon. As her fosters, we love her already, and she's started to trust us and get closer to us. As much as we love having her with us and helping her, the sooner she can transition to her forever family - the right family who sees her as their pup - the sooner she can get out of transition mode and live her best life as the sweetest, most loving girl there is. If Amelie and her story speak to you, please apply at herorescue.org and learn more about this fantastic dog. Someone will be winning the lottery when they decide to bring this girl home one day soon. Thank you for your interest in one of our Hero Babies! Before inquiring, we thought it was important to share a few of our policies. Your Current Pets - We do require that your current dogs and cats are current on vaccines and spayed/neutered. Adoptions - We do not have a shelter and are a foster-home based organization. We do require that you have an approved adoption application to schedule a meet and greet. You can fill out an adoption application on our website, www.herorescue.org/adopt. Once your application is approved it will be sent to the foster family that is currently caring for the dog. They will be able to provide information on likes, dislikes, personality, etc. They will also schedule a time for you to meet the dog. We do require a home visit prior to adoption. Inquiries - If you would like more information on any dogs in the rescue, please email us at info@herorescue.org.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Amelie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
