My story

Pelusa is available for Foster to Adopt! We'd love to welcome Pelusa into the Fetch + Releash family on the next available flight in July. In order to secure a spot on the flight, she needs a committed foster-to-adopt family. As a foster-to-adopt family, you’ll be expected to take her home that same day. You will then have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until their new forever family can be found. Each bio was created by our rescue partners based on their interactions with the dogs. Fetch + Releash has a full disclosure policy however we cannot guarantee a dog against parasites or diseases, nor can we guarantee a dog’s nature/behaviour. Many of these dogs are coming directly from the shelter and so you should expect there to be a transitional period. Be prepared to deal with common issues like potty training, leash walking, and socialization. Cat and kid safety assessments are often based on their personality and not necessarily on actual interactions. Where possible, the majority of vetting will be completed prior to coming to Canada, however, foster-to-adopt families may be required to travel to our partner vet Mississauga, ON for further vet care. During your foster-to-adopt trial, you’ll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit. Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pelusa / Female / 5 years old / 26 lbs / Terrier Mix / From Mexico Meet Pelusa, a scruffy little sweetheart with soulful eyes and a new leash on life. She was found alongside a chihuahua named Fidel in a rough part of town. A kind local woman took them in and reached out to our rescue partner for help. While we know she had at least one litter of puppies on the street, much of Pelusa’s past remains a mystery. Pelusa may seem shy at first, but she’s the type to take her time feeling safe. After rescue, she spent two quiet days in her crate before deciding it was safe to show her true colours. Once she opens up, she’s described as incredibly gentle, loving, and a little bit quirky. She enjoys slow yard explorations, getting caught in the rain, and, yes, looking beautiful while doing it. Pelusa is on the lower end of medium energy and will need two walks daily as well as some canine enrichment. Having never had a home, her new family should be prepared to support her with crate training, leash walking, and general manners. Pelusa was briefly cat-tested and seemed a little nervous but not reactive. While she hasn't been tested with children, based on her gentle nature, we believe she would do well with respectful, dog-savvy children. Her family should be prepared to supervise all interactions to ensure everyone's safety. While she would do well as a solo pup, we think she'd make an excellent second (or third) doggie as well. Prior to coming into care, Pelusa tested positive for Ehrlichia and Anaplasmosis, which are tick-borne infections and are not contagious. She will have completed treatment prior to her arrival in Canada and a CBC will be performed to confirm there is no active infection. It is recommended that Ehrlichia/Anaplasma positive dogs get an annual blood test to monitor and that pre-op blood work (including a CBC test and platelet count) be performed before any surgeries or dental extractions. If you’re interested in fostering with the intention of adopting, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Pelusa's adoption fee is $850. To learn more about our adoption fees and the foster-to-adopt process, please visit our FAQs at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/about-us#about-faqs.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Pelusa (Foster-To-Adopt), please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
