My story

Everyone in the world loves Ducky - well, everyone except for the person who shot him. Even with a bullet still lodged in his body, Ducky has never met a stranger and has the biggest smile, hug and tail wag for everyone he meets. When we saw that Ducky was one of the longest residents at Sussex, we were excited to have the chance to take the baton and help find Ducky an amazing family and home. After meeting him, we realized it would be one of our easiest tasks yet!Ducky was just 36 pounds when he arrived at Sussex - with their love and medical support, he gained weight and went through heartworm treatment. He is now a very healthy 65 pounds (pure love) and he exudes joy with every movement he makes. We feel the weight of the world on our shoulders with Ducky. He was a staff favorite at another shelter but was not having any luck finding his new family. We thought for sure we could help him find the best chapter of his life. But NO ONE has come to see this amazing boy. No one has yet to realize that Ducky will enhance their lives in ways they never knew they needed. Ducky isn't getting picked last, he's not even getting picked.Ducky has had a rough beginning. He's just three-years-old but already has a bullet in him. He has been heartworm positive but, thankfully, is nearing the end of treatment. He was emaciated when first taken in by the other shelter, but they did an excellent job getting him at a healthy weight. And now his true personality is shining through and we are completely taken in by this sweet boy. His go-to move with us is a combo hop-chirp-bark. He's not a tiny boy - so to see him bopping up and down makes us laugh. And then it tugs at our heartstrings when, on our hotter days, we see him laying in his room with A/C (thank goodness) but resting his head on the bottom of his doggie door, so as not to miss a moment or a chance to meet his potential new family. The bottom line is that Ducky is very special - he's one of those dogs that makes people want to go the extra mile to help him, love him and promise him the world. Please help us to help him. He is truly worth the efforts of all of us.Ducky is available to meet every single day from 9am-12pm at 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton!Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ducky, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
