My story

The number one thing you need to know about Maggie Magpie is her love for affection and her aspirations to be a lap dog LOL. She leans into you for affection and will try to climb into your lap any chance she can get (if you let her). Maggie would give gold stars to any form of affection. In her book, it's all amazing. Her "favorites" though have to be belly rubs and booty scratches! Maggie has one of those personalities that's a perfect combination of silly and cuddly. She will make you laugh for days watching her play with her favorite toys and will be that loving bestie you never knew you needed. There truly is so much to love about her! She is dog friendly, super smart, has the best personality, and a 10 out of 10. Watch her video and fall in love with sweet loving girl: https://youtu.be/9EBVV3TASmQ?si=b3hw_RTkn05SoXlj Maggie Magpie is believed to be a pittie lab mix approximately 3 years old and currently weighs 70 lbs. She is a rescue dog and with any rescue it's always a mystery and we cannot guarantee breed or age. She has a super unique coat that is medium-ish length and has this subtle wave to it too that I just love. There is nothing that I love more than a big dog that aspires to be a lap dog. It's a personal preference and in my opinion, there's nothing better than wrapping your arms around your furry bestie and them hugging you back. If that's not your style, that's okay too because Maggie respects when you're wanting some boundaries and will listen when you tell her no. I just never do LOL. She was this affectionate with me from the very first moment I even met her. When it comes to people, she is absolutely a lover and loves everyone she meets. So be prepared for all the kisses. Another thing that I really love about Maggie is her love for toys and the way her inner puppy comes out when she is playing. She loves to toss toys up in the air, shake them around, loves making them squeak. She can entertain her self for hours with toy, it's so cute! I can definitely see her being the type of dog that would be in absolute heaven if you took her to the pet store and down the toy isle to pick out a toy of her choosing. Maggie is dog friendly and has done great with all of the dogs we have introduced her to. She loves to romp around the yard playing chase with all her doggy friends and she enjoys the occasional wrestling match. She is good about taking play breaks on her own and appreciates those calmer hangout moments too. Maggie can be a little vocal when she plays and she makes grumbly noises but it's all in the name of fun. When she's not romping around and playing, she can be found in two of her favorite places. Either next to a human getting loved on or rolling around in a mud puddle and completely changing the color of her fur LOL. So get ready to have extra towels on hand after a rainy day! In a home, Maggie would do best with a goofy medium energy doggy friend that enjoys playing, is tolerant of rumble and tumble type play, and appreciates those calmer moments as well. If you don't have other dogs, that's fine too! Maggie does not need the company of another dog to help her feel comfortable or open up. She is a confident happy lady all on her own and would love to be the center of your world. This gorgeous lady is more than just her look and amazing personality, she's got the brains to match the rest of her awesomeness! Maggie already has a few tricks up her sleeve that she can't wait to show off. She knows how to sit, shake, lay down, walks well on a leash, and has amazing engagement when she is training with her handler. If you watched her video, then you saw her attend one of our fancy footwork classes where dogs practice leash skills, engagement with her handler, and socialization/confidence building with people and other dogs around. During the class, Maggie was an exceptional doggy student loving all the mental stimulation that came with the class as well as all the treats too. When her handler would ask her to sit, she would immediately sit, look up at her handler, and would wait patiently for the next command. She never barked or pulled towards the other dogs, even when some of the other dogs were struggling on the leash. She was focused, eager to learn, and enjoying every minute of it. Maggie is a treat enthusiast and loves all the treats, she's not picky and will do anything for a treat. Her willingness to learn and love for treats will make any additional training you want to do with her that much more enjoyable for you both and a great bonding experience as well. She also has great house manners and she is crate trained and potty trained too. Just call her your 10/10 bestest girl! Maggie would love to go to a semi active family in a home with a backyard. She would be a great companion to take with you on walks throughout the neighborhood, take a trip to the beach, play fetch in the backyard, or explore those trails you have saved on the map. Bonus points if you have a pool or if you buy her a kiddie pool to splash around in because she loves cooling off in the water or turning into a fluffy piggy and finding a mud spot LOL. Don't worry though, because when it comes to drying her off, she loves the towel dry offs especially when it's time for her belly to be dried off and the booty. She loves the belly rubs, booty scratches and really all the affection. Maggie isn't all about fun times either, she's a snuggly queen and loves those relaxing moments with her person(s) where she can lay right next to you while you watch you favorite show or movie. She's the type of lady that can do it all, truly the best of both worlds. We haven't seen Maggie with kids just yet and we can certainly test that for you. Based off what we have seen so far, we believe she would make a great family dog with kids 7 and up. We are willing to test Maggie with anything you need us to in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know. We travel to WA, UT, OR, ID, VA, PA, OH, NY, CT, VT and Canada (Canadian adopters will need to pick up in Bellingham, WA or Brattleboro, VT for the eastern Canadian border)! Our pups travel in comfort with 24/7 care on our USDA licensed vehicles, including buses and cargo vans. You can join along on our private Facebook event page to follow their adventure, connecting you with other adopters and providing updates throughout their transport journey! You will get to meet your new pup over a video call before signing paperwork, creating a fun and personalized adoption experience! The adoption fee is $900 and includes all vetting (DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter, flea prevention, a 12 month heartworm preventative injectible, heartworm test and treatment if needed, a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar, a health certificate deeming the pup healthy for travel, cost of transport*, and priceless years of love and loyal companionship! We have over 15,000 successful adoptions so far and have excellent Google Reviews: https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success. Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress! Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet. The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue. While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
