My story

Name: Hankie (Hank) Sex: Male Color: Gray/White Eye Color: Brown Birthday: 11/1/2020 Weight: 44 lbs Large Dog Friendly: Yes Small Dog Friendly: Only had exposure on walks. He's so sweet that after some warm up time I'm guessing he'd be ok. Cat Friendly: Unknown but I'd say probably not. He wants to go after all the critters we see on walks or in the yard, but unsure what he'd so if he actually got to one. Crate Trained: Yes. He doesn't want to go in but once he is he's fine. We crated him the first week while we were at work but then slowly left him out for longer and longer times while we were gone. Now he's usually not crated while we are gone. Hankie and our husky, Braxie, generally hang out together, looking out the window or napping. Housebroken: Yes Energy Level: Medium/High Reaction to New People: Friendly with new people but a little shy at first. Kid Friendly: We haven't had him around little kids but I think he'd be ok. Training: He knows sit and come, but like most huskies he doesn't always do it. We are working on not pulling on the leash and he's gotten better. Pulls when he sees another dog so working on sitting and staying until they walk by. I say "Hank, stop" and he'll stop and wait. Sometimes we have to do that multiple times in a row and sometimes just once is enough. I use the traffic handle to hold him close if needed. He just wants to explore everything and check out all the new things. Grooming Needs: Typical husky. Regular weekly brushing and blowing of his coat a few times a year. He doesn't mind the brush. Fence: We have a fully fenced yard, half is 4/4.5 feet and half is 6 feet. We have had him on a trailing leash in the yard and he hasn't shown any inclination to jump/challenge the shorter part of the fence. We stay by him and keep him interested in playing with us and running. Our husky Braxie doesn't challenge the fence and I think Hank just wants to do what Braxie does and be by him. They wear each other out pretty fast with all the chasing! He generally stays close to us or Braxie. Solo or Siblings: We'd recommend siblings since that's what he's used to and loves being near our dog. Being home alone could be hard for him since he likes to always be by one or all of us. From the foster: Hankie has been a pretty easy addition to our household. The first week or so he paced around quite a bit and if we were moving around he had to follow everywhere. He doesn't pace anymore but does want to be by us all the time. Especially if we are in the kitchen he has to be right there. Hankie is a picky eater but has gotten better. He doesn't always eat all his food but will eat some. He needs to gain a few (5-7) pounds so we are really monitoring his food. He doesn't like many dog treats but does like peanut butter, chicken, veggies, sweet and red potato and rice. He usually gets a mix of those with his dry dog food. It helps him eat the kibble. Hankie slept in a crate the first night and did great with us right by him. Since then he has slept in our bed. Generally sleeps all night (10p-6a) without having to go outside. Hankie is very happy and pretty quiet. He'll bark a bit if he's excited but that's about it. He likes to run and play with our husky but he also likes to snuggle on the couch. He doesn't get into things and takes direction well from us or from Braxie. Hankie is such a lover and is so sweet!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Hankie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
