My story

Sweet Orphan Annie! This beautiful girl entered the system in November of 2024. She was a stray, unclaimed and unwanted, from the streets of Houston, TX. Annie caught our eye when we saw her being networked due to being euthanasia listed. So, she made her way to safety and landed in a loving foster home here in Colorado. Annie LOVES love! She’s very affectionate and can be found actually hugging her humans. She’s an amazing snuggle bunny, too! Annie is playful with other dogs and can often be caught snuggling up to her foster siblings. Annie ended up on medical hold after it was discovered she had a intrahepatic portosystemic shunt. What the what? Annie had a large vessel within her liver that bypassed blood around her liver, slowly poisoning her body. It is truly a miracle she was even still alive! Annie underwent surgery in March. At her 3 month recheck, bloodwork evidenced that her shunt was likely fully closed! You can see it in her face, too! Her symptoms (excessive thirst, dilute and frequent urination, and weight loss) have fully resolved. Annie has even been weaned off oral medications. She will need a simple recheck appt at 6 months post op and at that time, she may not even require special food any longer! Annie is now nearing 1.5-2 years old. She seems to be a Boxer/Lab mix, but a DNA test was never performed. She’s not a super high energy dog, yet she is playful and she does enjoy walks. Mostly she just wants a family to love Annie is in foster in Greeley, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/annie. You can apply for our wonderful dogs at https://www.milehighcanine.org/adopt/adoption-application/.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Annie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
