My story

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see a beautiful young dog that is in need of our help. They're so new and fresh with every possibility open to them. That's the case unless they're unwanted and in need of rescue from a New Mexico shelter. Sawyer is a beautiful young Beagle / German Shorthair Pointer with a shining, cottony-soft coat that speaks of his breed mix. His breeds were the opinion of New Mexico veterinarians. All we know for certain is that Sawyer is absolutely irresistible! Sawyer's beautiful coat (with the gorgeous markings) is currently shelter-sad. He will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths / brushing and excellent nutrition. Five star foods / treats and a daily salmon oil supplement are excellent protocols for coat care and longevity. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great New Mexico rescuers in saving Sawyer and taking excellent care of him while he waited patiently for his transport to Colorado.. They could see that his temperament, while initially a bit quiet, became so sweet and kind that they imagined him with a Colorado family that would love him forever. Farfel's was contacted and we were thrilled to welcome this loving and beautiful pup into our rescue. It turns out that Sawyer, at just about 10 months old and a great medium-sized 27 lbs, can be initially shy from all the changes in his life, With just a bit of patience and loving care, this brave guy becomes so sweet and lovable that it's been a fun and rewarding experience for his rescuers to watch him blossom. It's immediately clear that Sawyer is true to his breeds. He's super-smart and the look in his dark eyes is one of wisdom and intelligence. He is currently like a blank slate...open and curious about everything around him. Sawyer's rescuer, who has fallen hard for this special dog, is introducing him to new situations that promote positive socialization with other dogs and bonding with humans.. Sawyer has shown that he has the temperament and skills to be a well-adjusted and very loving companion with both gentle dogs and their dog-loving humans. Positive reinforcement / force-free obedience classes will prepare this very smart young pup for a life of inclusion with his family. Through these classes, Sawyer will learn cause and effect in his relationship with other dogs. He will also come to view his people as his leaders, therefore developing a desire to please and to be in a respectful partnership with his family. Sawyer would be a natural for agility classes and fly ball. He would have so much fun and come to enjoy this special time spent with his favorite humans. Farfel's is happy to suggest positive reinforcement trainers that work with agility in your area. A family that loves Sawyer like crazy are exactly the type of folks we're searching for for this silly/fun, entertaining and super- loving guy. We also feel it's very important that Sawyer is provided with exercise and mental stimulation. This active pup will be overjoyed if his future holds hikes along Colorado trails enjoying the sunshine. Socializing with other hikers and their dogs will definitely speak to the engaging nature of this sweet dog. We'd love a family for Sawyer that spends lots of time at home and chooses to include a fuzzy best friend in their activities. Sawyer can be taught that the car is a fun place that leads to great adventures out in the community. He can therefore accompany his family just about anywhere with the assurance that he'll be a social guy with appropriate behavior. Sawyer has been vetted and fully vaccinated to support Farfel's commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. He has also been neutered to be true to our commitment to a euthanasia - free future in the canine population. Sawyer will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Wednesday 6/25/2025. Applications are currently being accepted for our cuddly best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Sawyer, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving guy. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sawyer, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
