My foster writes: Just like her namesake, Gem will truly shine with a bit of work. She is a silly, shy, and beautiful black adult female. She previously lived with many cats and would do best in a home with other feline friends. Despite a record of improper elimination in the shelter environment, she has had no litterbox issues in the foster home (other than being a bit overzealous about flinging litter around). She prefers to hide under her bedding, and should be provided with safe hiding places while she acclimates to a new home. She doesn't currently seek out petting, but is not aggressive towards nearby hands. Gem loves food, and loves treats even more (squeezeups are her favorite). An adopter who can help Gem adjust to her new life will be rewarded with a dedicated companion. What my friends at ACC say about me:Gem is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She is apprehensive of people and while showing no aggressive behaviors, she does attempt to flee or avoid human contact. It is difficult to predict if she will respond to socialization but we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.I am looking for a home with a patient person.I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. Primary Color: Black Weight: 5.75 Age: 1yrs 1mths 2wks
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Gem, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
