Introducing Freiya—because apparently the dog world needed an emotionally intelligent therapist with four legs and a heart made of warm cookies. Freiya is here to gaze into your soul, sigh dramatically when your energy is “off,” and gently lean into you like the intuitive, soft-hearted little sage she is. She's a sensitive soul wrapped in fluff and polite boundaries. So if you're looking for a high-energy chaos gremlin... keep it moving. But if you need a gentle shadow who gives off “licensed emotional support animal with a minor in yoga” vibes—well, your girl Freiya is ready for her forever after. Freiya came to us after her former humans surrendered her to a shelter because the landlord said she had to go. As if that wasn’t heartbreaking enough, she soon found herself on the urgent list thanks to an overcrowded shelter and a system that doesn’t appreciate introverts in fur coats. At just 1.5 years old and a svelte 52lbs, she’s what we in the biz call a pocket Pyr—basically the teacup version of your standard couch-dwelling cloud. Freiya is still basically a teen—if that teen wore white floof, loved quietly sitting near you, and processed emotions like a tiny therapist with paws. She’s gentle, sweet, and sensitive in all the best ways. Not a drama queen, just a quiet soul who prefers deep connections. Freiya is basically the Switzerland of the dog world—friendly, neutral, and just trying to keep the peace. She’s great with other dogs and leans more toward the “submissive sidekick” vibe than the “wrestling champ of the backyard” energy. If another dog wants to be in charge, Freiya’s like, “Cool, I didn’t want the spotlight anyway.” She loves to play, happily follows their lead, and brings zero drama to the party. As for cats? She’s a respectful little diplomat. If the cat says, “You may approach,” she’ll gleefully engage in a little playtime. If the cat says, “Touch me and perish,” she backs off like a seasoned negotiator who knows when the treaty isn’t happening. No aggression, no plotting, just a “you do you” attitude toward the feline overlords. She hasn’t been around kids in her foster home, but based on her temperament, we’d guess she’d do fine with respectful children who understand that dogs are not jungle gyms or stuffed animals with pulse. Basically, if your kid is in the “I don't pull tails or ride dogs like ponies” stage of development, we think Freiya would get along just fine. New people can throw her off for a hot minute—she’s not the kind to fling herself at strangers like a furry cannonball. She’s more the “assess the vibes, decide you’re safe, and then slowly become your shadow” type. It doesn’t take long for her to warm up, especially if you speak fluent Treat. Freiya clocks in at a solid 5 out of 10 on the energy scale—think Golden Retriever crossed with a very polite houseplant. She’s got just enough pep to enjoy a good romp or zoomie session with her dog friends, but she’s not going to be training for a canine decathlon anytime soon. Her vibe is “let’s play for 20 minutes, then emotionally recover in a soft patch of sunlight.” Car rides? Well, she’s not trying to reenact a Jeep commercial, but she’s also not treating the backseat like a hostage situation. She needs a bit of help hopping in—because why jump when you can be gently hoisted like royalty? Once in, she settles down nicely, tethered and calm, quietly pondering the meaning of life while you deal with traffic. On leash, Freiya’s no sled dog, but she’s not exactly gliding next to you like you’re about to enter the show ring either. She’s more of a gentle zigzagger—sniff here, veer there, maybe check out that leaf because it might be important. At heart, Freiya is still figuring out if she wants to be an adventurer or a homebody. Right now, she’s firmly planted in the “please don’t make me go in there” camp when it comes to new places. But once she trusts you, we suspect she might enjoy a little field trip now and then. Her temperament? Think soft-shelled marshmallow with anxiety. She’s a gentle, sensitive soul who thinks loud voices are personally offensive and might even file a complaint with HR. She’s not dramatic about it—just quietly wounded. But give her patience and a soft voice, and she’ll melt right into your side like she was born to be there. For fun, Freiya is all about toys. She digs through the toy box like she’s on a treasure hunt, proudly parading around with her prize like a kid who just discovered dinosaurs. She also loves water, so expect some happy splashing. And of course, she thrives in the company of other dogs who understand that wrestling is fun but emotional support is sacred. While she could technically live without a fence, we wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re signing up to be her full-time personal assistant with a daily walking itinerary. She’s young, a little unsure of the world, and would do best with a yard, a canine pal to boost her confidence, and someone who gets that she’s still figuring life out. Potty trained? Absolutely. Freiya understands the concept of outdoor bathrooms like a civilized lady. As for kennels… well, Freiya considers the crate a mysterious foreign concept, like taxes or TikTok dances as she has never been kenneled. When left alone, Freiya is a responsible free-roamer—like the valedictorian of home-alone behavior. She lounges around with the other dogs like they’re running a very relaxed book club. Chewing things she shouldn’t? Freiya would never. She has far too much class for that kind of reckless behavior. Freiya’s current barking style? Full-on mime. Not a peep, not a woof, not even a dramatic sigh to let you know she disapproves of the neighbor’s lawn décor. She's the strong, silent type—for now. But let’s be honest, once she gets comfortable and realizes her voice can summon the humans, that may very well change. So, if you’ve made it this far and you’re thinking, “Wow, I do need a pocket-sized therapist in fluffy form,” then congratulations—you might just be Freiya’s person. But fair warning: she’s not shipping herself to you via doggy Uber. If you want this sweet soul in your life, you’ll need to fill out an adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app and be willing to make the glamorous trek to Kiowa, OK. Bring snacks, good music, and maybe a tissue or two for the happy tears—because once you meet her, you’re not leaving without her. 🐾
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Freiya, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
