My story

Meet Raya: the emotionally available, low-maintenance BFF you didn’t know you needed. She’s like the perfectly brewed cup of coffee—warm, energizing when you need her to be, but also completely content to chill with you on the couch while you pretend to be productive. Her name literally means "friend," which is adorable, because all she wants is to be everyone’s bestie—humans, animals, probably your Amazon driver. Raya is that girl who can keep up on your weekend hikes but also binge-watch an entire season of whatever you're into, no questions asked. Whether you're a full-house chaos coordinator with kids and critters or a solo adventurer in need of a loyal copilot, Raya’s got heart, fluff, and the emotional depth of a Pixar character. She’s not just a dog. She’s your ride-or-die with an adorable nose. Raya — 50 pounds of emotional support and dramatic floof, wrapped in a Great Pyrenees mix who’s just 10 months old. Her former family? They downsized and took a traveling job, so now Miss Raya is part of our fluffy butt family and ready to find her happily ever after! She’s the ultimate blend of energy and chill. Want a buddy for a hike? She’s lacing up her imaginary boots. Prefer to binge-watch shows and eat snacks while pretending the laundry doesn’t exist? Say less—Raya’s already claimed the coziest spot on the couch. She’s good with people, pets, and probably even houseplants if they give her enough attention. Whether your life is loud and full of chaos (the fun kind, obviously) or more of a quiet retreat with room for one very affectionate fluff-nugget, Raya’s just looking for someone to love her the way she’s ready to love back. Raya is basically your extroverted friend who assumes every living creature—human, dog, or very unamused cat—wants to be part of her fan club. She’s a self-appointed friendship ambassador, cheerfully sniffing out potential pals and occasionally missing the memo on personal space. Her cat strategy? Persistence. She’s not rude, just... determined. She stands near them like a hopeful backup dancer waiting to be noticed, utterly convinced they’re just playing hard to get. The cats, of course, remain unimpressed. With kids, Raya is a gentle soul in a fluffy suit. She’s been walked around by a toddler with the authority of a pint-sized CEO and didn’t even flinch. She handles the chaos of three boys (ages 2, 6, and 8) like a seasoned babysitter—kind, patient, and fully committed to being their fluffy couch during movie time. And when it comes to people? She’s a full-on social butterfly. Raya is the dog version of someone who sits too close on the first date—only it’s endearing because she’s soft, sweet, and just really, really wants you to love her. So go ahead. Give in. Resistance is futile. If Raya’s energy level were a cross between two animals, she’d be equal parts Golden Retriever and house cat. One minute she’s ready to hit the ground running like a motivational speaker on espresso, the next she’s melting into the floor like she’s been emotionally devastated by gravity. On a scale of 1 to 10, she’s a solid 6—just enough energy to keep life interesting, but not so much that you’ll start pricing out roller skates just to keep up. In the car, she’s the kind of road trip buddy who hops in like she’s known you since college, picks the weirdest spot to sit (floor goblin status: engaged), and quietly vibes the entire ride like she’s composing her memoir in her head. No motion sickness, no drama—just existential gazing and light floor nesting. On a leash, Raya channels her inner Dora the Explorer. She's got places to sniff, things to discover, and let’s just say she walks with purpose. Some leash manners are in place, but a little polish wouldn’t hurt. She’s a balanced lifestyle queen—equal parts adventure-seeker and nap connoisseur. Whether it’s a trip to the park, a backyard zoomie sesh, or a lazy afternoon snuggled into the couch like she pays rent, Raya’s down for whatever. She does need toys and exercise to keep her brain and paws busy, but she’s just as content to lay dramatically across cool tile like a fluffy Victorian heroine recovering from heartbreak. Her temperament? Picture someone who desperately wants to be loved but also has the chill of someone who already knows she’s a catch. She’s affectionate, eager to please, occasionally forgets her size, and would absolutely make the “loyal best friend” montage in a coming-of-age movie. She’d thrive in a bustling household or with a solo human who enjoys mild adventures and excessive cuddles. As far as hobbies go, Raya enjoys brief sprints of pure unfiltered joy, followed by elaborate nap rituals. If she’s inside, she’ll find the most temperature-regulated spot to sprawl; if she’s outside, she’s turning the nearest patch of dirt into her personal spa. She’s not picky—just particular. She does know a couple commands like “sit” and “come,” which makes her officially more obedient than half the men on dating apps. And while she’d prefer a securely fenced backyard for her occasional zoomie marathons, she'd probably settle for regular leash walks if you let her sniff every. single. blade. of. grass. Raya is mostly potty trained—which means yes, she knows the rules… but sometimes she just forgets them, especially if you miss her regularly scheduled outing. As for the kennel? She’s surprisingly chill. No great escapes, no dramatic howling monologues—just a girl who knows when it’s bedtime and will tuck herself in like the independent queen she is. If only more things in life were that easy. Raya’s chewing habits are… opportunistic. She’s not out here actively seeking destruction, but if your kid leaves a toy lying around that even slightly resembles a dog toy? Game on. Raya assumes all stuffed animals are communal property and that squeaky things are obviously meant for her. Honestly, it’s not her fault your child’s plush dinosaur has the same energy as a Kong with a superiority complex. Raya’s not out here running the 24-hour neighborhood news station, but she’ll absolutely chime in when there’s breaking news—like another dog barking two blocks away or an Amazon package daring to exist. She’s got that deep, impressive bark that sounds like it belongs to a much larger, slightly judgmental dog, and she uses it sparingly… but with dramatic flair. Fortunately, she’s also one of those rare unicorns who actually listens when told “no,” and will usually quiet down like, “Okay fine, but you handle the impending doom then." So, if you’ve made it this far and aren’t already in love with Raya… honestly, are you even trying? If you're ready to welcome this perfect blend of sass, fluff, and emotional support into your life, go ahead and fill out that adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app. Just a friendly reminder: Raya isn’t Amazon Prime eligible—you’ll need to actually drive to Okarche, Oklahoma to pick up your new best friend. No teleportation, no drone delivery.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Raya, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
