My story

Meet Cole – The Loyal Giant with a Heart of Gold 🖤🐾 Cole is a stunning 130-pound Newfoundland mix with a gentle soul and a deep desire to bond with his person. At heart, he’s a loving, goofy companion who adores snuggling, showing off his toys, and prancing with joy at the simplest pleasures—like stepping into the backyard or lounging with his favorite human. Once Cole trusts you, his loyalty is unmatched. He’ll sit in your lap (all of him!), lick away your tears when you’re down, and offer his cherished toys like precious gifts. His signature happy “harump” and full-body tail wags will brighten your day without fail. 🏡 What He Needs in a Home: Cole thrives best in a calm, adult-only household with no children. He bonds especially well with women, though he has successfully built strong relationships with patient, gentle men. Cole is selective and protective by nature, so introductions should be slow and intentional. He’s a creature of habit who loves routine—mealtimes, potty breaks, and naps are all on schedule. 🐕 The Good Stuff: Potty trained and accident-free for over 2 years Non-destructive and content being left alone Low drool for a Newfie! Appropriate barker and easily corrected Crate-free and trustworthy in the home Loves his toys, water play, and long naps on the couch Knows basic obedience and responds well to training tools ⚠️ Things to Work On: Cole has made great progress with training, but will need continued support. He’s fear-reactive to certain stimuli like bicycles, strangers in close proximity, or unexpected guests in the home. He will benefit from a strong, confident handler who can reinforce boundaries and build trust. Another round of professional training is highly recommended and will go a long way in helping him thrive. 👨‍⚕️ Health Notes: Cole is generally healthy. He’s had minor issues like ear infections (managed with weekly cleanings) and mild eye drainage (veterinarian is not concerned). He takes monthly Heartgard and Nexgard (given on separate days to avoid upset stomach), and tolerates grooming and summer trims well. 💔 Why He's Being Rehomed: Cole’s current owner loves him deeply but is facing serious health challenges that make it impossible to provide the structure and exercise Cole needs. This decision comes from a place of love and hope—to find someone who can give Cole the time, attention, and stable environment he deserves. 🎯 Ideal Home: No children Patient, experienced dog owner Female-led household preferred Willingness to continue training Calm, structured environment Fenced yard for playtime Someone who truly understands and appreciates the loyal, protective nature of this breed Cole is not for everyone—but for the right person, he will be the most loyal, loving, and rewarding companion imaginable. If you’re ready to build a bond that runs deep, Cole is ready to meet you.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cole, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
