River

My story

River is the sweetest little sheperd/malinois mix that possibly ever existed! She is a wonderful combination of the two breeds. She has been wonderful to start her on basics training with, easily mastering a quick sit, stay, down and working on heel now. River is fully house broken as long as the humans make sure she has access to get outside. River is also fully crate trained, sleeping through the night with her favorite nylabone and stuffed animal.  River was rescued off the streets of Sacramento and was taken to the local SPCA for her stray hold. Her current foster mom happened to be visiting the SPCA the day after she was dropped off and saw how scared she was, all alone in a big kennel with no other dogs nearby. CalPaws advocated to get River into foster before her stray hold expired, and the day she was available she became part of the CalPaws family officially! River would do best in a home with an adult dog to help guide her. She is currently fostered with 4 adults and she is very respectful and responds very well to their social cues and corrections. River will require an adopter with breed experience that is dedicated to the training and maintenance that her breed requires. Though she seems to take more after the  German Sheperd side of her genetics, she has so many of the positive attributes found in the Belgian Malinois.  ##2424423##
