Ivy came to ACCT Philly on June 17th, 2025, after a Good Samaritan found her alone in a vacant lot on North Lambert Street. Described as friendly but scared, Ivy was noted to have inflammation across her skin and was brought in for care. Despite being initially shut down in the kennel, Ivy has already shown remarkable resilience and small signs of trust-building. With gentle handling, she has started engaging more with volunteers, even offering tail wags and sniffing new people after some time to warm up. Though still fearful and sensitive to sudden movements, Ivy is responsive to baby talk, tolerant of leashing, and enjoys quiet walks. Outside the kennel, she walks calmly on leash, and while avoidant at times, she has also accepted soft pets and treats from those who go slow with her. Her sweet and timid nature shines through when given space and reassurance, and her behavior continues to show steady if cautious, improvement. On 6/19 she was noted to be moderately shy and low energy. The team member noted that Ivy will benefit from a slow approach. Ivy was noted to be medium energy on 6/20 and still moderately shy. The team member who walked her noted that she loves cheese, did ok on the leash, and enjoyed sniffing on the walk. On 6/21 Ivy was noted to be less shy and had low energy on the walk. The team member who walked her noted that it was easy to get Ivy out of her kennel with cheese, and that she is super sweet and doesn't like the hose or water. On 6/21 Ivy also joined playgroup with no issues or concerns. On 6/23 no issues or concerns were noted from the walk. On 6/25, 6/28, and 6/29 Ivy was noted to be medium energy with no issues or concerns. Per volunteer 6/20: Ivy was watching me and in front of her kennel as I worked to get the dog out next to her. I fed her and the other dog cheese. When it was time to approach Ivy for a walk, she was in front of her kennel with soft eyes and loose body. She backed up 2-3 times from my leash, but eventually came forward and we calmly and slowly exited the shelter. While outside, Ivy walked a little staff along the sidewalk. She sniffed and walked away from 2x when I stopped and sat on the curb- hoping for her attention. Ivy continued with sniffs and I sat down again, and she approached me this time. Soft pets on the head and cheese were given. She has a lovely smile and beautiful bright white teeth. She takes treats very nicely. She continued to sniff while in the large run and engage very little with me. No issues with kennel return. 6/19/2025: Volunteer Notes I returned to Ivy’s kennel about 15 minutes after taking her out. This time she was standing at the front of the kennel. Her body language was much looser and she had a mid level tail wag. I baby talked to her and she sat down at the front with soft eyes. She did some cute head tilts when I made some noises so I could snap a few pics. 06/19/2025 Per Volunteer, Behavioral Eval: Ivy was sitting on her bed, ears back, with whale eyes and shaking when I approached the kennel. She was not budging off the bed. I offered her cheese, she would eat if I threw it onto her bed but she would not get off her bed. I was able to lasso her with a leash but even with pressure, she did not get off the bed. I visited her twice to see if she would move off the bed. She did start to adventure front feet only to eat cheese right in front of the bed but would quickly retreat. I went back one more time and decided to use more leash pressure. I stepped into the kennel and lassoed her. She remained laying down. She had wide eyes, ears back and a tight lip. She didn’t stand up. With some pressure, the bed actually slide towards the front and we were able to get her to hop off. She came out of the kennel and we walked outside. Ivy mostly loose leash walked outside. Her tail was down but we got some small tail wags from her when using baby talk. She did not accept treats. She was avoidant of the handler. She did walk behind the second handler often wrapping herself around d her. She had brief on leash dog meet. She was tolerant of the sniffing but had stiff body language with a tucked tail. In the volunteer officer, ivy continued to be avoidant. She had her ears back, her skin was getting pinker, she was panting and had a tight lip. She did not accept treats and would flinch with sudden movement. She did briefly sniff the handlers and allowed small pets with a tight body. She returned to her kennel with no issue.
