My story

Meet Maverick! This handsome, happy-go-lucky boy is ready to find his forever home! Maverick is a large mixed breed with a heart as big as his goofy personality. While he may come across as unsure or nervous when first settling into a new home or meeting new people, don’t let that fool you — once he’s had a moment to sniff you out (and maybe score a treat), Maverick quickly transforms into a total lovebug.Maverick is still learning that not everyone appreciates a full-body jump hug or an excited hump, so he’ll need a home committed to continuing his training and helping him channel that enthusiasm more politely. On walks, Maverick can be leash reactive to other dogs, mainly out of excitement and frustration, but with the right support and guidance, he’s already showing promise.Maverick would thrive in a home that’s patient, understanding, and willing to go slow at first — but once he’s comfortable, you’ll see just how goofy, loving, and loyal this boy truly is.If you’re ready to help Maverick grow into the best version of himself, he’s ready to shower you with kisses, cuddles, and so much love.IN-SHELTER NOTES & IDEAL HOMESIZE:64 poundsHOME TYPE:No apartments as he can be quite nervous around new people/dogs and he is sound sensitiveCHILDREN:Teenaged children at the youngest - very nervous and touch sensitive but improving dailyCATS & SMALL ANIMALS:Unknown - No prey drive concerns noted.OTHER DOGS:Yes- Dogs potentially compatible with slow proper introductionACTIVITY/ENERGY LEVEL:High; will need a lot of daily exercise, enrichment and mental stimulation.HUMAN COMPATIBILTY:Large nervous dog knowledge or experience requiredTRAINING REQUIREMENTS/NEEDS:Two in-person training sessions required to work on socialization, basic training, manners (jumpy/mouthy), sound and touch sensitivity.FAVOURITE THINGS:Getting all the love from people, getting the zoomies and chasing as many toys as possible.**For more information on any behaviours stated above, please check out our behaviour fact sheet: https://kwsphumane.ca/BehavioursandDefinitions**Please remember that animals are coming back from foster care to the centres for their meet and greets.
