My story

Currently being fostered in Dunnellon, FL. 🔹Jane was picked up as a stray along with a male Caucasian Ovcharka after animal control received a call about the two dogs being involved in a minor bite incident with a woman walking down a street. The woman involved could not identify which dog was the one that bit her but said she was swinging a stick at them when one came up and bit her from behind. She did not seek medical attention for the bite and animal control did not see visible bite marks.🔹Since Jane was pulled from the shelter she has been easy to hold and very sweet. Shy and unsure at times as she is still getting used to her new environment and people. Jane is a typical livestock guardian type and does wonderful for her people but will bark and be at attention when a stranger approaches. Once she is reassured they are not a threat she becomes calm and will seek interaction from the new person. Jane absolutely loves children and wants nothing but their attention and pets. She can get very playful and excited and due to her size, we have to be careful she doesn’t knock them over. 🔹We do believe Jane has been an outside dog living with livestock as she is very unsure about being in the house and prefers being outside. She has shown no reactivity when walking by the horse and goat pastures or the chicken coop. She does shy away when they approach at times but with verbal reassurance calms and is fine. 🔹Jane has done some low growling when her inside kennel is approached by one of the house cats and has walked calmly past them on the way outside with no issue. We feel she may have some typical LGD barrier reactivity when it comes to cats. 🔹Jane has shown no reactivity or aggression when being handled, fed, or touched all over. But did seem nervous during a thunderstorm with whining and drooling. This may be because she is unsure about being in a house setting. 🔹Jane would definitely make a good LGD and will need work to be proven to be okay with different types of livestock. We don’t know her past so definitely an experience LGD home would be ideal.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Jane, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
