My story

Meet Zero! He is a six-year-old rat terrier/chihuahua mix that was born in the home. He is super sweet and social. He gets excited to meet anything that breathes. He knows his name, and he has lived with other dogs, too! He spent most of his life outdoors in a fenced yard and outdoor kennel, so he isn't house-trained, but he is obedient. We're sure with patience and training, he will learn where to do his business. He was raised alongside his mom, Sally, so he will need time to adjust without her if they are adopted separately. But we are confident he will do well in almost any environment with or without her. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.
