My story

Meet Sammy, a super sweet 10-year-old orange gentleman who’s ready to find his new best friend. Sammy’s previous family describes him as very friendly, affectionate, and a huge fan of pets and attention. He loves spending time with his people and will happily soak up all the love you have to give. Sammy has lived with dogs before and done well, but he gets stressed around other cats—so he’d likely be happiest as your one and only feline friend. He’s also done well with older kids and would enjoy a calm, cozy home where he can relax, be pampered, and get plenty of head scritches. If you’re ready to welcome a gentle, loving senior into your life, Sammy is ready to fill your home with purrs, head bumps, and endless sweetness. Come meet him and see if he’s the perfect match for you! This cat has specific litterbox needs. When you bring this cat home they will need to be set up in a room by themselves. This cat will go home with a behavior plan that you will need to follow in order for them to use the litterbox reliably. Change is hard for this cat. This cat will be very nervous when you first bring them home. You will need to set up a room with a litter box, food, and water. It will take days for this cat to become comfortable and confident in the new home. This cat will be going home with a behavior plan that will need to be followed in order for everyone to transition successfully. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available cats in the shelter. (Cats in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the cat first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a cat for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available on Saturdays and during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All cat adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccine -current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV/FIV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your new pet.
