Name: Chauncey Age: approx 4 years old Weight: 45 pounds Color: tri color Breed: foxhound Vaccines: up to date Altered: yes Heartworm Status: negative Energy Level: moderate House trained: yes Crate trained: yes Dog friendly: yes Cat friendly: unknown will test Kid friendly: kids 10 and above Temperament: sweet, friendly, gentle Adoption fee: 275 Available for adoption anywhere in the US and Canada with transport provided at no extra cost Currently located in Chesapeake VA Application link: https://form.jotform.com/212979324392060 Chauncey has had the WORST luck. He found himself at the Southampton shelter in VA as an owner surrender and then was saved by a "rescue" who crated him in a facility until they went under and then transferred him to another "rescue" who had him and others living in stacked wire crates in a garage and a shed. Animal control was called and they seized the animals from the property. That person was charged with over 100 animal cruelty/neglect charges... Chauncey was confused and scared in the shelter and they incorrectly labeled him aggressive and took him off adoption. His chances of making it out of there were slim to none. Thankfully I saw his tucked tail and low head showing he was scared and he was indeed NOT aggressive so thanks to team Chauncey we were able to save him. He is a great boy. He loved his temporary foster and had no issues there. He loves toys, even likes fetch!!! (did growl once when foster mom grabbed a tug toy from him) so unsure he was resource guarding the toy or his crate. Once he was settled with his new long term foster family he did work with a trainer as he was showing behavioral issues. Thankfully after a few sessions, these issues are in the past. Chauncey quickly made friends with other dogs and he sleeps soundly in his crate or on a bed. He knows the command sit so far and is willing and eager to learn. Chauncey means luck and fortune and he sure was lucky to make it out of all the bad situations he was placed in due to humans who failed him...
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Chauncey, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
