My story

Meet Willy 🧡 Approximately 4 years old | 35 lbs | Male | Neutered | Heartworm Positive Willy came to us through our outreach team after spending most of his life living outdoors in a home where he endured neglect and frequent attacks from other dogs. When he arrived just three weeks ago, he was afraid of almost everything — but in that short time, he’s already made huge strides. He’s now neutered and has tested positive for heartworms, but Heart of America Humane Society will cover the full cost of his treatment. What he needs most now is a family to help him continue his emotional healing. Willy is slowly learning the comforts of indoor life. He’s discovering soft beds, the quiet company of people, and how much fun it is to have other dogs around. He adores the other pups in his foster home and is learning so much from them. He still struggles with trust — he wants so badly to be close, and you can see it in his eyes — but fear holds him back sometimes. His foster gives him lots of encouragement and treats to help him feel safe, and it's working — he’s making progress every day. He sleeps peacefully through the night in the living room with the other dogs and is well-behaved as long as someone is home. When left alone, he needs to be crated, as he has a tendency to shred soft things (pillows, beds — even the last decorative one!). Willy’s heart may be hurting, but it’s wide open.
