My story

Paloma’s name means “dove,” and it couldn’t be more fitting. This gentle gray and white Husky has a soft, soulful presence that speaks of resilience and quiet strength. Surrendered to a high-intake shelter in Lancaster after spending most of her life confined to a cage, Paloma came to us with a cautious heart and a longing for freedom she hadn’t yet known. Though her early years were marked by isolation, Paloma is slowly discovering what it means to be part of a loving world. Every day brings a new first—her first long walk, her first cozy bed, her first taste of kindness without conditions. She is shy at first but never unkind—just thoughtful and observant, taking in the world at her own pace. Paloma is learning to trust. She’ll watch you with gentle eyes, quietly following your movements, and when she feels safe, she’ll lean in—just a little—for affection. She’s discovering the joy of being outside, the calm of having space, and the beauty of just being a dog. She would thrive in a patient, calm home with people who understand that healing takes time—but that it’s also one of the most beautiful journeys you can take with a dog. A quiet household with another well-mannered dog could help her feel more confident, or she’d do well as a solo companion with someone who can offer structure, gentle encouragement, and love. Paloma’s past may have caged her, but her future is wide open. Will you be the one to help her spread her wings?

If you have any questions or would like to adopt August, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
