Please go to our website at www.milehighlabmission.com to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application. Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website. We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run. We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have. Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.General Notes | Dutchess or "Duch" is a "middle aged queen" of chocolate labs - the most loving soul, with a heart brimming with affection, especially for kids! She's ready to offer calm companionship and endless devotion, becoming a cherished member of your Colorado home. Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Personality | Dutchess is a sweet and gentle girl. She will take some time to warm up, but once she does don't be surprised if this loveable lab ends up trying to climb into your lab for some sweet snuggles! She is very calm, naps a lot and would love to join you in your home office, follow you to your "break room" for a quick snack, the ladies room to catch up on the latest gossip, or snooze on the couch while you catch up on your favorite TV shows. Though she prefers to be your shadow, she is also fine being left at home when you head into the office and is a "free range" pup while you're gone. (No chewing up your shoes or kid's toys or going potty inside for this girl!) Dutchess does get spooked by fireworks - what dog doesn't, right? She is not likely to be a good companion for long hikes as her activity level is low, but she loves a nice steady stroll around the block and has been on shorter "day" hikes and thoroughly enjoyed them. Who likes to eat alone? Not this girl! She is such a polite pup that she will wait patiently for you to eat your own dinner before she eats her own, so it's best if she's fed while you are getting ready for work, working (if you work from home), or while you are making dinner. Story | Dutchess came to Mile High from Texas. She has been with her current family since February of 2022.Other Dogs | Dutchess is fine with other dogs in greeting, and in public spaces, but she does not like to compete for love in her home unfortunately. This gal does fine when around other dogs on walks or when she sees or hears them in neighboring yards but she will be better off as the only dog in the home! MHLM will not take applications for her if there is already a dog in the home, or if an adopter wants secondary pets, as this gal does best being what she is - an independent queen! Cats | Dutchess didn't love the kitties in her TX foster home, and the rescue would advise against her being placed in a home with cats. Children | Dutchess loves children and is gentle with them. She has "grown up" with two kiddos over the last 3.5 years as they grew from ages 2 and 4 to 5 and 7. She likes to lay in their rooms during storytime and doesn't mind being invited up to snuggle! She is not spooked by loud noises or sudden movements, and is used to her two human brothers playing loudly and it doesn't bother her a bit.Training | She is potty trained, will sit, go into her kennel "go to bed", and responds to her name. If you walk her over to a certain area of your yard that you want her to go potty and do that a few times she catches on quickly and will go potty in that area, saving your grass! Leash | Though not formally leash trained, she is pretty good on a leash and will usually not pull unless you see a bunny rabbit. (If you do, she will pull slightly or jump as though she wants to chase, but it's over as soon as it starts since she's an old gal).Activity Level | LowHealth Notes | She is spayed and was heartworm positive when she first came to Mile High, but was treated and has been heartworm negative since December of 2023. It is important any adopter continue to administer her Heartworm preventative medication on a monthly basis, which comes in oral form. The current family has a prescription thorugh March, 2026, so you will not need to buy any for quite some time. Duchess may be allergic to peanut butter so you'll want to avoid any PB treats, and she otherwise seems to have a sensitive stomatch (no table scraps unless it's veggies that are doggy approved, like carrots, or fruit like strawberries, blueberries, etc.). Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog).Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for one year from date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.June 18, 2025, 1:13 am
