My story

Meet Cardi — 3 years old, 24 lbs. of sass, snacks, and squeaky toy obsession Cardi came to us from a “finder” in Riverside, CA. She had zero vet care and a whole lot of confusion. The person who found her said they were going to keep her, but she kept attacking their female Frenchie… and oh yeah, they never took her to the vet or treated her obvious smelly skin issues. Found? Owned? Neglected? We’ll never know — and honestly, we’d rather not. What matters is they did the right thing searching for a rescue and that she’s here now. We’ve been working hard to get her healthy and happy. Medical: This apricot beauty came in with mange (thankfully not a severe case), and we immediately started her on antibiotics, allergy meds, and medicated baths. She had a lot of fur missing on her back legs and folds and her breasts hung almost to the ground. Cardi was covered in Staph infection and her skin felt like 80 grit sandpaper. Her coat is finally coming back in, and she’s looking better every day. She was recently spayed after clearly having a litter rescently — Her little belly and low-hanging teats are proof this girl’s been through it. Let’s talk about personality: Cardi is a one-woman comedy show. She bounces like a bunny, tosses her toys like she’s playing catch with an imaginary friend, and gets hyped over the tiniest victories — like finding a ball she buried 10 minutes ago. She lives for squeaky toys, food, and exploring every corner of the yard. Cardi is dominant with other dogs and will resource guard her toys, so a slow 333 transition is non-negotiable. She needs time and structure to settle in. We’ve had success introducing her to calm, submissive dogs — in fact, she and Boba are now besties (go figure). She wants to play with other dogs but it must be her way (control freak). She’s done well with slow intros and no more than 2–3 dogs at a time. Too much stimulation sends her into overdrive. Honestly? She’d love to be your one and only. But if you’ve got a mellow male or confident-but-submissive female, she might just vibe with them too. Family life: She’s great with respectful kids 7+ and not cat-tested. Potty training is still in progress — she’s stubbornly catching onto crate training and doesn’t poop inside, but she has an occasional pee accident. We suspect it’s a leftover habit from being confined in a crate too long. With consistency, she’s improving, that will have to continue in new home. We’re still trying to solve one little mystery: Cardi has a weirdly pungent smell that isn’t anal glands, she does sweat and loves rolling around on everything. Her skin infection is still lingering, but it is mostly resolved and once her fur fully grows in, which is almost there. Until then, she gets extra spa days which she does not love but deals with. We have jump started her on allergy mediation and probiotic, but she may need both in the long run. Foster update: She’s thriving. We’re taking it slow, letting her make choices, redirecting her often, and praising every win which is a lot. She’s stubborn (hello, Frenchie), but the love she gives? Worth every second of patience. Cardi is a joy to have around and a hilarious menace. Well, you know Dennis the menace? She is the female version always looking for Mr. Wilson. We think it’s hilarious, I will say this she does not destroy household items, I did catch her trying to tear a dog bed a part, so we just make sure she is always stimulated in a positive way. She loves to be petted and get her bootayyy scratched! Cardi is looking for someone who understands bulldog quirks, is committed to structure, socializing, and training, you must match her love of snacks and squeaks. She’s been through a lot, but this girl is so worth it. Are you ready to give Cardi the life she so dreams of? She is vaccinated, microchipped and spay. Her adoption donation fee is $1025.00 you can apply for her on our website. Located in Mesa, AZ.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cardi, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
