Click here to learn more about the adoption process!Essence was on top of the den, looking calm, and when approached with squeeze-up, she ignored them at first, but enjoyed petting, leaning in gently for cheek rubs. Then she quickly came down for more treats, allowing all petting, arching her back slightly, and remaining calm and quiet. But then she started to look out of the kennel and began to meow and stress meow and grumble slightly. She continued to grumble and stress meow when picked up and briefly held and then sat back down, but she never displayed any aggression. She simply appeared to be a bit stressed or conflicted, either with the attention or possibly with awareness of stimuli outside of the kennel.Essence tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that she go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in stressed and conflicted cat behavior.
