My story

Charlie had a rough go in his short little life. So tough he even lost a leg. Now a confident little tripod, he's physically doing just fine. Emotionally, he's still learning to trust people. He can be wary of new people, but he loves men, and once he bonds with you, he's all in.. As long as you only touch him on his terms. His foster is doing amazing work helping him feel safe and building trust. They're working on cooperative care, which means Charlie gets a say in who touches him and when. That's a pretty big deal for a little dog who didn't always have that choice. He'd do best with someone who has experience with nervous or fearful dogs and can go at his pace. Patience is key. So are earplugs. Charlie has a lot to say and will let you know when the garbage truck is here, there's a bird outside, or a leaf is falling. He barks to let you know what's going on, but he does settle. It's like having a living alarm! When left alone, he'll bark a bit, then quiet down.Charlie would love to live with another calm, confident dog. Not to wrestle with, just to hang out. Another dog helps him feel safe. He'll need regular grooming, something he's not happy about, but it's needed. He does take anxiety-reducing medication for vet visits. These might help him with grooming as he learns that people and touch are safe. He's not the kind of dog who's going to hop into your lap on day one. But give him some time, and you'll see a sweet, funny little guy who wants to feel safe and loved. He's well on his way there thanks to our amazing foster volunteers!Charlie is in foster care, so if you think he might be your match, please apply online. We'll reach out to selected applicants to set up a meet and greet Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 7.5 Age: 5yrs 8mths 3wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Charlie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
