My story

Cardinal is a big, goofy puppy ready to love you! This 3-month-old Shepherd mix already weighs 33 pounds—almost the size of a medium adult, but with the clumsy feet of the giant puppy that he is. He’s sure grow into a “gentle giant”—a cuddlebug happy to sit in your lap and get all the scritches. Cardinal is full of puppy energy! He has been on a leash a couple of times, and does surprisingly well. He loves big, fluffy, squeaky toys, wrestling with his littermates, and snuggling whenever the opportunity arises. His favorite toy is a battery-operated fish that flops (the dogs love to steal them from each other). He's learning lots of new things all the time, including how to go up and down the steps (which was adorable). While he's still brand new to house training, he’s already starting to pick a consistent potty spot in the outdoor kennel and sleeps soundly through the night. Cardinal is happy to go in and out of the outdoor kennel freely, but he isn't used to formal crate training yet. Cardinal is adjusting very well to his new foster home, quickly bonding with the other dogs. He’s the right mix of playful and respectful when they're all together. He hasn't had much experience alone, but when separated from his brothers, he may whine for a couple of minutes before settling down. He hasn't been tested with cats. With people, he’s loving and eager—especially when it comes to lap time and ear scratches. He’s done well with kids ages 6 and over, though his size and puppy energy may be a bit much for very small children without supervision. If you're looking for a super sweet pup, Cardinal is ready to meet you!If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cardinal, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
