My story

#A5700301 Meet Boba , a 3-year-old pit bull and the ultimate velvet couch hippo, with a rich cocoa coat sprinkled with marshmallow fluff on his chest and toes, and soulful whiskey eyes that will melt your heart. He’s very shut down at the shelter and clearly carrying the weight of a rough past  - flinching at touch and unsure of his surroundings - but beneath the fear is a dog full of love just waiting to bloom. Boba is potty trained, walks well on leash (though still a bit hesitant), and takes treats gently -  a promising sign of past training and a great foundation for more. He’s especially responsive to kind, gentle energy, and truly started to open up when a female volunteer sat with him, suggesting he may feel safest with women due to possible past trauma. However, he also did fine with a male volunteer - it just depends on a thoughtful approach. With time, patience, and a calm environment, plus a healthy helping of love, Boba has all the makings of a loyal, loving companion himself. He’d benefit from continued socialization, and might really thrive with another dog sibling or in group training to build trust and confidence. Will you open your heart and home to sweet boy Boba?   -3 year old black Pitbull -71 pound neutered male -up to date on all shots and preventatives, so ready to go home with you today! -came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on 5/17/25 as an owner surrender - but we have no notes and no idea why, as Boba is a sweet, gentle soul -incredibly handsome velvet couch hippo, with a deep cocoa coat accented with dollops of marshmallow fluff on his chest and feet, and warm whiskey eyes that will steal your heart -very shut down at the shelter, but has great potential to be the perfect family dog -seems to have had a rough past, as he flinches when approached or being pet -just needs a calm, patient, and loving home to give him space to decompress and unwind, so he can bloom into his best self -appears to have had some training in his past life - good on leash, if a bit hesitant due to the shelter environment, and is potty trained -loves treats and takes them gently, which will help with learning more commands and training, if needed -might be a ladies' man at heart - was ok with a male volunteer, but really warmed up and came alive when joined by a female volunteer - this may be due to bad past experiences with men -would benefit from more socialization, so could be an excellent brother to any pups you may already have - could also do well with group training or behavior classes BOBA’S VIDEO:  https://youtube.com/shorts/Q9blSVFVKNo For more information, contact volunteer Lisa at lisaa@unitedhopeforanimals.org ------- United Hope for Animals (UHA) is a volunteer group and does not have a facility for animals.  This pet is part of our Shelter Support Program at the Baldwin Park Shelter. For more information about the pet, the adoption process, or our program please contact the Volunteer Adoption Coordinator listed above. Because animals are adopted/rescued daily, please also check the United Hope for Animals Facebook page to see if an animal is still available OR call the Baldwin Park Shelter at 626-962-3577. When inquiring about an animal, please reference the animal’s ID number. This will enable the volunteer or Baldwin Park employee to locate the status of the pet. Thank you for supporting rescue.June 11, 2025, 9:41 pm
