My story

POSITIVE ATTRIBUTE:Citrus was a good mama to her kittens she was found with. FLEXIBLE PLACEMENT: Recommendations for Citrus1. A barn placement, with a slow introduction to her space2. Spirit cat POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:Citrus came in as a stray so we have no background or history on her. TRANSITION/DECOMPRESSION: Citrus is easily stressed or overwhelmed during transitions. She is looking for an adopter who is willing to give her as much time as she needs to settle in - it could be a couple of days, weeks, or longer. Her success will be dependent on how well adopters are able to read and appropriately respond to her body language. She should never be approached or pet or picked up when she is hiding or showing fearful body language. Ideally, with enough time to herself, she will begin to relax and move around more freely while her adopters are visiting her room. SPIRIT RECOMMENDATIONS:Citrus will need a very slow introduction to the home. She should start in one quiet, room with managed hiding places and gradually be given more access to the house as she settles in. Expectations for her should be kept very low, and she will probably exist more as a spirit cat. It cannot be stressed enough that her adopters need to let her adapt at her own space and that she is who she is and needs a patient understanding person that wont push or expect her to be anything other than who she is. WORKING CAT RECOMMENDATIONS:Pick a room in the barn/facility that has a closable door. It is best to start in a smaller space that has minimal foot traffic. It is recommended to start Citrus start off in something like a dog crate, where she can get acclimated into the room but is still confined in a small space. The crate should be large enough to house the cat, a litter box, food/water bowls, and space for the cat to move around. Cats thrive on predictability. Start building a routine the moment you bring the cat home, and keep that routine consistent every day. We recommend having a feeding schedule so your cat can expect when their food is coming. The PM meal is most important as it will condition your cat to know when to come inside at night. COMPATIBILITY:KIDS: Possibly, older no history DOGS: Possibly, no history CATS: Came in with her kittens, no history with adults. Slow introductions

If you have any questions or would like to adopt CITRUS, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
