My story

Are you looking for a spunky little teddy bear to brighten up your life? Meet Akio, a fantastic 12-year-old schnauzer gentleman with pleasant manners. His scruffy black ears sit over inquisitive eyes that are very bright and clear, which may have been the impetus for his name (Akio means bright and clear in Japanese). It might also refer to his presence – Akio has an easygoing attitude that will put you at ease and give you a feeling of serenity that everything is going to be okay. Pronounced “accio” like the Harry Potter spell (as in “Accio, Akio, please come to my house and be my sweet little mutt!”), you’ll want to summon this little lover to you and never let him go. If you’re in the market for a dog that looks more teddy bear than doggo, come on down and meet Akio today! He’s definitely good for some cuddles. Here's some notes from his foster: Akio is a sweet little gentleman who’s brought a lot of love into our household! At twelve years young, he’s definitely on the calmer side. You can find him snoozing during most of the day, often somewhere close to you. When he’s awake, he’s incredibly curious, always wandering around and exploring the different nooks and crannies in our house. He also loves to follow you around the house and patiently waits for more pets and cuddles. He’s adjusted amazingly so far, he's also gotten close with my roommates, and has been incredibly patient with my roommate's puppy, with the two of them getting along great. He loves to lean his head down for you to pet his neck, and often falls asleep in your hands if you pet him for long enough. He’s also incredibly smart and super food oriented; when he first arrived, he didn’t respond to any basic commands, and within 24 hours he now responds to “sit” and “come”, especially when treats are on the line. Not to mention he’s like a walking teddy bear! Going on walks with Akio is a breeze for the most part, he is great at following your lead and paces at a comfortable speed. He LOVES going on long walks, I think he would keep walking forever if I don’t stop to bring him back. Like a lot of dogs, he does react when there are other passerby dogs; I find that the best way is to let him not notice them and it works out. A great dog for someone who is looking for a buddy to hang out and relax with, and for someone who enjoys going on long walks. He might need a bit of patience to help him with some potty training and learning new tricks, but he’s well worth the effort :)

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Akio 13051, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
