My story

NOTE: CORDY IS IN A FOSTER HOME IN DAVIS, CA. GSRSV HAS NOT MET CORDY. WE ARE LISTING HER ON THIS WEBSITE ALONG WITH OUR OWN DOGS TO GIVE HER MORE ADOPTION EXPOSURE. PLEASE SEE END OF THIS PROFILE FOR CONTACT INFO. "Cordy" is a 45-lb, 1-yo spayed female GSD/Staffordshire Terrier mix who is loving, smart and playful. Cordy is healthy, current on core vaccinations and microchipped. Cordy is wonderful with people of all ages. She craves attention and is a total love bug. She was raised with two young children, 2 & 6 yrs old, but her former people said she would be best with older kids. Cordy is a mixed bag with other dogs. She is definitely NOT good with small dogs, as she has a strong prey drive. However, she interacted well with a 65-lb female Pit Bull, and would likely do OK w/ a medium-to-large confident male dog. Cordy is reactive towards other dogs when on walks, but is improving with this behavior. She simply has not had that much exposure to other dogs. Cordy is NOT good with cats, period. Cordy is housetrained but is not at a point yet where she can be trusted inside alone for extended periods of time. She is fine in a crate. She sleeps in her crate, but of course she would prefer to sleep on her person’s bed or next to them on the floor. Cordy is well-trained and responds well to several commands. (See elsewhere on this page to see a video of Cordy responding to commands.) She recently received four weeks of board & train at Elite Dog Training in West Sacramento. Cordy walks great on leash unless she sees another dog or a cat, in which case she becomes very reactive. However, she is quick to respond to correction and poses no problem in the hands of an experienced handler. Cordy also has excellent off-leash recall, again, when there are no distractions. Cordy loves to go for car rides and is a calm passenger. She loves squeaky toys and to play tug-of-war. Cordy was adopted as a 10-wk old puppy by a family with cats. Though Cordy did OK with the cats for many months, she became more prey-driven as time went on and eventually became a physical threat to the cats. Her people tried to shape her behavior with the month of board & train but that was ineffective at quelling Cordy’s prey drive. They were about to surrender Cordy to a shelter when a friend of theirs (Adelia) intervened and found a foster home for her with a co-worker in Davis. While the foster caretaker does not have any other animals, he is unable to keep Cordy beyond July 14 due to work commitments. Cordy is located in Davis. Her adoption fee is $50. Please contact Adelia McGregor at 916-272-8631 or adeliammcgregor@gmail.com.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cordy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
