My story

Meet Mariposa — a 7-year-old bundle of love who’s equal parts waddle, wiggle, and wonderful.Mariposa came to BARCS as a stray, but it didn’t take long for everyone to fall head over heels for her. Her finder described her as incredibly friendly, easy to handle, and great with their kids—and she’s only continued to prove what a gem she is. From the moment she arrived, Mariposa has charmed staff, volunteers, and now her foster family with her gentle spirit, sweet eyes, and happy tail. Whether she’s greeting new people or showing off her perfect “sit” for a treat, she brings warmth and joy to everyone she meets.Out on walks, Mariposa’s signature waddle kicks into gear and she lights up with excitement. She walks beautifully on leash and has a calm, steady rhythm—like she’s savoring every moment of the adventure. She especially enjoys strolling by the water and greeting friendly passersby, human and canine alike. Her foster reports that she’s non-reactive to dogs, calm around city sounds, and enjoys polite doggy meet-and-greets in open, neutral spaces. She’d likely enjoy the company of another mellow pup but would be equally happy as your one-and-only cuddle bug.In the home, Mariposa is the definition of an easy companion. She’s completely house-trained, has excellent leash manners, and doesn’t require a crate—she’s far too respectful and low-key to need one. She transitions beautifully from outdoor adventures to cozy indoor naps and spends most of her time relaxing with a chew toy, gently watching the world from a comfy spot. While she does have occasional bursts of playful energy (especially for tug-of-war), she’s generally calm, affectionate, and content to just be near her people.Mariposa has also been around cats and has done great—her foster`s resident cat is a bit on the sassy side, but Mariposa respects her space and shows no negative reactions. She’s also met a toddler and was sweet and gentle, proving herself to be a calm and trustworthy companion for families of all shapes and sizes. She’s quiet, observant, and takes joy in simple pleasures—pup cups, couch time, and a soft bed to snuggle in after a good walk. She thrives in a home where her people are around more often than not—while she’s fine alone for short periods, she clearly prefers companionship. Whether you work from home or just love the idea of a dog who will happily snooze nearby while you go about your day, Mariposa will be right there, ready to off

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Mariposa, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
