My story

Say hello to Mercury, a vibrant and uniquely adorable 3-year-old terrier mix who’s ready to race her way into your heart! Mercury found her way to the Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) on the morning of June 1st, 2025, after being discovered tired and tethered outside to the pavilion fence—wearing nothing but a pink collar and a look of confusion. But when help arrived, Mercury’s spirit lit up with tail wags, sweet kisses, and her signature smile that could brighten anyone’s day. The first thing you’ll probably notice about Mercury? Her one-of-a-kind ears that are just as expressive as her personality. But don’t be fooled—this girl is much more than a cute face! Mercury is a ball of energy and joy, always ready for an adventure or a snuggle. She’s mastered the basics like “sit” and “gentle,” and walks wonderfully on a leash.Mercury enjoys making canine friends and would love to meet your resident pup before adoption to make sure it’s a paw-sitive match! She’s fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm negative (yay!), and will be spayed upon adoption if she isn’t already. Mercury’s story may have started with uncertainty, but she’s now ready for her fresh start with a loving forever family. Could that be you?
