My story

I’m Spumoni, a resilient survivor who has had a long journey to be ready for my loving forever home!I arrived at the Humane Society of York County in January 2025, barely able to walk and in terrible pain – I had been used as a bait dog and was covered in deep wounds and emaciated. HSYC pulled me from the Lancaster County Animal Shelter after a volunteer advocated on my behalf – my time there was almost up because of my injuries and overcrowding at the shelter.I went straight to a wonderful foster home. I started with medical care for my pain and wounds, and soon went from being carried outside to walking on my own to being able to explore the yard. My body and my spirit healed in good time!I gained weight and was finally able to start treatment for life-threatening heartworm disease. I had a rough go with my recovery and also battled anemia during my treatment. But I’m a survivor, and I won those battles! I’m cleared medically and fully recovered, and I’m the most loving, snuggling companion you could ever imagine. I love to cuddle and dish out kisses, and my foster family says I’m a lovely, gentle leash walker. I never have accidents in the house.I’m up to a healthy weight of about 50 pounds now. I’m a terrier mix and my estimated birth date is January 2021 – though my foster family says I have the playfulness of a younger dog. I love to play in the yard, especially chasing and retrieving tennis balls. I get along with other dogs in my foster home. (I don’t pay much attention to the cats.) I love everyone I meet (both humans and dogs) and affectionately greet people I meet. It’s been a long road, but I’m ready to find a forever person or family who wants all of the snuggles and kisses I have to give!If you wish to meet me, please call the Humane Society of York County at (803)-802-0902 to schedule an appointment. Please refer to our website for adoption requirements: https://humanesocietyofyorkcounty.org/adopt/adoption-process.htmlThank you for your support.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Spumoni, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
