My story

Moses is like a celebrity – gorgeous & loved by everyone but really just wants to keep his personal life private. As pretty as he is, it will definitely take a while for Moses to get comfortable. He definitely takes comfort in having his more-outgoing brother Elijah around. The sometimes snuggle together & Elijah will occasionally groom Moses to help him feel safe. When first getting adjusted, it will be important to keep Moses in a room that doesn’t have any places he can reach where you wouldn’t be able to reach him – he’s going to find the most secluded spot he can to use as his sanctuary, whether that is a little kitty cubby, under the bed, in the back of a cupboard, or behind furniture. Once he’s picked his favorite safe spot, he’ll probably spend most of his time there silently staring at you until he feels safer. It might take a couple weeks! You probably won’t see him eat or do anything else at first, & he will probably shy away from you if you hold out a hand toward him. Eventually, he will slowly, subtly start to relax. He won’t cringe as much, he’ll start blinking sometimes instead of just staring, & he might even lean forward to sniff your hand. As he gets more & more comfortable, he’ll start eating while you’re watching if you put his bowl in front of him, then stand up ahead of time as he gets more excited about meals. By this time, he will probably let you briefly make contact to pet him just a little bit, slowly building up confidence until he starts enjoying a little bit of head & chin scratching. With a bit of clicker training & some enticement with his favorite Bonkers treats, he will come out of his shell & start eating out of your hand. Just take it easy, a little at a time, & it will be worthwhile to earn his trust.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Moses, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
