For Adoption: Fern's Puppies!!! It’s time!!! The puppies are officially up for adoption!!! Available to go to new homes end of June/ early July. PLEASE read the bio below in detail There is a link right in the 1st paragraph of the bio directing you to our website. The adoption application is on our dogs for adoption page, and by perusing our website pages you will get all your questions answered. please note: we will be placing these pups into homes based on temperament and best suitability for each particular home. Please don’t apply for a specific puppy as we can’t make any guarantees which pup will be the best fit for you. We don’t base selections on colour. Please keep in mind a good temperament and personality match is the most important factor for a successful puppy adoption. We will be selecting pups for families based on this, and of course with the families input as well. So families with open minds and the desire to have their best puppy match only please! We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Aren’t they adorable? These puppies are 9 Shepherd/Lab/Terrier and who knows what else puppies born April 29, 2025. There are 4 males and 5 female. In honour of their mom who is named Fern we chose flora based names for the pups. We happily present to you: Birch, Bramble, Barley, Dandelion, Laurel, Pansy, Basil, Lilac and Delta. We took in their mom, Fern, from a rural shelter where she was an unclaimed stray. She has been found roaming with a few male dogs, one which looked like her and the other was a purebred Lab so it is assumed that one or both of these dogs are the dad(s). She was heavily pregnant and the shelter staff was really wanting her to have her puppies in a rescue’s care so we stepped up. Fern is a 2yr old, lovely natured dog and the pups have taken on her temperament. Soon after taking Fern into our care she went into labour and these 9 precious babies were born and are being raised in a loving home with fosters very experienced in puppy raising. The pups won’t be able to go to their forever homes until end of June but we are posting them now in the hopes of having their adoptive families selected and ready to take them home when the time is right. We know their mother very well and she is a total love of a dog. She is quiet and loving and gentle natured. Pups tend to take on the personality of their mothers so we fully expect these pups to be just as darling as she is. Fern is a medium dog, weighing about 45lbs. She is a scruffy terrier and German Shepherd with who knows what else mix and is fawn in colour with adorable white socks. Some of her pups have these white socks too which is such a striking feature. From the size of the pups we do expect that they will be medium sized dogs, around 40lbs to 60lbs full grown (but cant give any guarantees) and will be sturdy, medium energy dogs capable of doing most things you wish to participate in. Mom is scruffy and some of the pups are taking after her fur so if you love a scruffy dog, we have some!! But some of the pups have short fur like a Lab, So if you love the look, temperament and energy level of a Lab these pups might just be what you are looking for! With the mix of breeds in them, we expect these pups to be great family pets. These pups are super friendly and love nothing more than to play with you and cuddle with you. They are quite energetic now but will mature into moderate energy dogs. They will be very interesting looking dogs and their owners will surely get a whole lot of “what kind of dog is that?” questions. The pups are being socialized with other dogs and cats in their foster home. A home with a puppy friendly dog would be fine, but not mandatory. They will be suited to home with children over 8yrs of age as long as the adults in the home are dog savvy and experienced and know that excited children energy and excited puppy energy means jumping, nipping, scratching etc. Supervision at all times when kids and puppy are interacting is necessary. Older kids, teens, or an adult only home is ideal. These pups would be fine for a couple planning on having children in a couple years as they will be lovely family dogs when grown as long as the work is put into them now to train them and socialize them very well their first year and beyond. Anyone interested in one of the pups needs to live within 1hr of Cambridge, Ont as they must be returned to our vet later on to be spayed/neutered. They will be adopted out on a contract that stipulates this and it is mandatory. This is covered in the adoption fee. We will only consider homes for the pups where someone is home or has the capabilities to come home throughout the day. Puppies need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly when they are small and will not be able to hold it for an 8hr work day. Please keep in mind that if you work from home you need to have a plan in place for a crating schedule for the pup as puppies need 100% of your supervision when not in their crates; you cannot expect to work and have the puppy running around in the room with you as they won’t have your full attention. We are also looking for families that are fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved. Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly. They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate. We are also looking for a family that will crate train the puppies as we fully believe that this is the best for pups and offers them a quiet and secure “den” to call their own. A crate trained pup is a blessing as it offers a safe place to put them when you can’t be watching them all the time. We will be expecting our adoptive families to attend puppy socialization class (if the local training facility offers this) with their new pup immediately upon adoption, along with, at minimum, level 1 obedience school after. The guidance and lessons learned in puppy classes are very important to getting your pup off to a good start. We handle these pups every day and will be offering them everything they need to be the best pups they can be when they leave our care but we need the adoptive families to take over for us when they get the pups home. We take our responsibilities to these pups very seriously and only want the best for them. They are being raised in our home, in our care, and have been since the first day when they made their presence into the world. We adore these puppies and will settle for nothing less than a dedicated, loving family that is well aware of the breed requirements and the needs of a puppy and this breed mix. We also are looking for families that want the dogs they will grow to become, not just the little bundle of furry cuteness. If you have been thinking about adding a medium breed puppy to your family and have the time and patience to properly raise a pup then they may just be perfect for you. We know you will fall in love with them as deeply as we have when you meet them. They are simply adorable puppies.
